Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla, has appealed to the people not to take out their vehicles on the roads without paying Motor Vehicle Tax (MVT) and pay all outstanding arrears of motor registration as well as present dues, as the campaign will begin from May 19 to May 23.
He asked the people to get vehicles with AFR-2007 and 2008 and fancy registration plates registered from the department within the next seven days and not to ply vehicles with illegal number plates.
He advised the people to get their documents rectified to avoid inconvenience, fines or confiscation of vehicles and keep the receipt of tax paid in their vehicle. He pointed out that despite repeated warnings by the Excise and Taxation Department, the Home Department and Traffic Police, unregistered vehicles with AFR-2007 and 2008 number plates are plying in the city and said that action against all such vehicles would be taken without discrimination.
He said that the department had no dearth of number plates which were provided to owners of vehicles at the time of registration under the laid down procedure. The minister said the department would setup check-posts at various points in the city from May 19 to 23 and check the documents. He said that vehicles of major defaulters would be taken into custody and would be released only after payment of tax and fine and he made it clear that the objective of this drive was not to cause inconvenience to the people but to enforce law.
