Exactly, the dilemma I am indulged these days, whether to go for the new CVTI or old ECT.

Sir, budget can be extended but the question is whether paying extra for grande is worth the cost. I will share my confusion here: The first thing I want in car is safety, that is SRS airbag, and second is automatic transmission. I was planning to book Altis 1.6 but was told it didn’t possess SRS airbag, which is why I want to stretch my budget a bit to book the Altis 1.8 CVTI which has SRS airbag plus automatic transmission both. Rest the additional features, which are offered in Grande, like sunroof, height adjusting seat, extra reading lamps, paddle shifter etc are not so much significant in my sight.

Sir you have answered your own questions.. for Safety only grande Cvti gives 1 airbag . and the transmission is worth the money imo..
have you given thought of getting a 1.8 Prius? .. it seems you will be getting automatic with more than 1 air bag so more safety for your family .. plus good mileage ...
if only I had the funds would have gone for Prius but had to book Gli which was in my budget

Dear, I think non grande version of Altis 1.8 CVTI also contains 1 airbag. Correct me if I am wrong. Rest Prius, Axio, and Premio are also in my budget but there are three big issues with them: 1. I really dont have the expertise to choose a clean JDM. 2. As I live in Hyderabad, so arranging parts for JDM would mean travelling to Karachi. 3. As compared to used, may be abused JDM, zero meter would be peace of mind for some years with availability of parts and after sales service at ease. What is your say?

Provided one has money, top of the line is always better, this is what I feel personally, then you don't have cravings that I should have gone for this feature and that feature.

Due to budget, I could only stretch it up to 1.6. Thought about 1.8 Cvti, but again constrained by money. So may be after some four or five years, I go for Grande.

Yes non-grande 1.8 Cvti is a good buy so go for it. And it does have SRS airbag. Check the Indus website.

Ahmed bhai CVTI is latest tech.. automatic but some how different in working .. you can google for it ... JDM's are lower ground clearance rides, not suitable for our road infrastructure, Corolla's suspension can meet this challenge ... if I were you with deep pockets I will definitely go for CVTI for the reasons you already mentioned

Yes I meant the 1.8 Cvti not Grande my bad..
after reading your requirement i'd say 1.8 cvti hits right on the mark . ..... its a really good buy

Nothing beats the smell of a new car, the feel of a top of the line sedan 1.8L, the paddle shifters.........And then you wake up in a 1.3L from a short nap.

Thanks a lot for the reply, sir. The difference between Grande and non-grande version of Altis 1.8 CVTI is 1 lac 50 thousand, which, I believe, can better be used on fuel, may be, for 2-3 years

This is a very cool car. I took one to Naran last week on rent. It performed awesome. The engine has negligible noise. Ground clearance is very good. I crossed many glaciers easily where other sedans were struggling a bit. Great ride. Enjoy. Drive safe. cheers!
