Dont think its a "wiring" issue theres hardly anything like that in the new camera's, most likely it could be the CCD some of these have design or production faults and if thats the case the camera company will replace it free of cost. Google for known faults on your camera model I am sure you'll get useful information rather than guesses from all of us 
The Compact camera's like the one you guys have are sealed against dust so the chances of getting dust on the CCD is very slim unless you were rolling it on the sand at the beach ? and if there is dust on it it'll manifest as black spots on your pictures. This can be an issue on DSLR's.
