Hello guys i used to follow a thread on the 1.5 turbo knock issues before last year. But now after almost 19 months of owning the car i want to share my opinion after all the research i have done. First of all the problem is there yet and going through the thread i beleive alot of you know the problems are... still knocks changing spark plugs with time and all. But here is the story. The L15B7 is a succesful engine which is being launched in other variants throughout the world so there is no problem with the engine.
Now coming here in pakistan due to the fuel quality the engine of the car knocks because the low quality fuel cannot sustain the high pressure of the cylinder of the engine having compression ration of 10.6 : 1 . The car knocks because of that.
Now here is the part worth noticing. One day when i was at the dealership they attached the HDS (honda diagnostic system) to the car. It shows all the functions running at that time. There i noticed that the spark advance has been retarted. Normally it should be on 3V but they had reduced it to 0.7V. Instantly i concluded that the update was all about retarding the time to minimize the knock this was all honda could come up with regarding the fuel quality here.
Now if anyone of turbo owners have experienced that if you change the spark plugs. The car is all like brand new for a few thousand kms and then starts behaving abnormally after. This is because retarding the spark timing results in late ignition and carbon build up on the spark plugs which gets them fouled with time and thats the reason why our spark plugs dont perform and they need to be replaced.
The thread is long but surely would clear some concepts on the issue. Waiting to hear from you guus.
