Friends,

I am owner of a Daewoo car for last 2.5 years. Recently my car was giving a sound and when I should to mechanic he said that there is play in the Crank and we will need to overhaul the engine and replace it.

I would like to have your opinion on following two questions:

1. Should I go for overhaul or should I replace the engine?

2. Which mechanic is generally considered to be good (based on your experince) whom I should get this work done?

Please share your opinion and experinces with me so I can make a better decision.

I went to Tahir in G-8 today. He asked me if the engine was using up the oil. I told him that the oil consumption is fine. So Tahir told me that we will only replace the Crank, not over haul the engine.

Any advise?

he has given u very right opinion. if only the cam is faulty tgen y complete engine should be overhauled.

In case if engine has problems, then my recommendation, based on my experience, would be to get ur engie overhauled instead of buyuing a kabli one.

BUT in case u dnt ve a timing gun then how do u set the ignition timing? i ve been watching videos on youtube but it doesnt say much on how to set timings on an old car like racer...and also when u dnt ve timing gun coz i read its quite expensive to buy.....

You can avail the facility in any reputable workshop, no need to buy one

Although he has given you good suggestion, I recommend that it will be beneficial to replace the rings too. Nevertheless the engine block has to be send to Lathe machine for precision of bearings and crank, for which the pistons will be extracted. Once the pistons are out, the old rings become useless. Also do check for the cylinder bore for any abnormality and get them corrected, so that the engine need not to opened again in the near future.

Please explain a little bit. Are you pointing towards the vent control?

Assalam-o-Allaikum to all DFC Members. I have recently bought the daewoo 2003 registered officer scheme. i have spent almost 6-7 days on its mechanical work/denting/interior decoration from Tahir sb G-8 Markaz . Now it is running fine. I have some minor issues and wants to get some experts comments especially from @testdrive.

1. When car is stopped in neutral gear or clutch pressed especially on traffic signals, its RPM meters suddenly show rise jump from (1-2.5 upto 3) although i dont race it.?

2. Please explain the RPM Meter usage and where it should be on different gears.?

3. From where i can get the second hand Alloy Rims, their price range in case exchange with old rims and what their size should be for daewoo.?

4. I want to clean the rest of floor(if any), carpet cleaning in short dismantle all interior for cleanliness, where is should contact.?

1. Does the Check Engine Light (a small orange light with engine pic on it in the cluster) appear? I recommend you get your car checked through scanner.

2. RPM meter is used to keep an eye on the engine speed which helps the user to change the gears at optimum engine speeds(RPMs). For better fuel consumption, change the gear between 2.5K to 3K rpm (Daewoo engine provides maximum torque at 3K RPM)

3. Daewoo Racer came equipped with 155/80 R13, you can go for 175/70R13 or 185/60R14 as Daewoo Racer/Cielo also cam equipped with these specs worldwide. You should visit Chah Sultan to check for used rims/tires.

4. You can contact any poshish shop for cleaning of interior.

Sir, actually facing problem of fresh air coming in from vent cons and u can also feel air thrust at ur feet.I was going thru the old threads and had read some thing sort of closing or plugging some points in engine compartment.I had tried alot but could not find any.Secondly gear shifting in winters become hard especially when veh is cool.Is this normal or needs checking.
