I obviously cannot comment on the authenticity because I only shared what the Kia guy told me. I can’t mention his name or rank but lets just say he is someone from the top management from the group and was here in Lahore for the showroom launch.
According to him, Sportage might take an year for selling locally assembled units because CBU can only be imported in a limited number and even if they offer rebate to customers, still that will bring a pause in the sales for many months which might not be good for them to give a break to sales, because selling a few units and then asking people to wait for another 10 months till they can offer them a car might not exactly be ideal for their marketing.
However if someone independently asks them to import any car from the Kia line up they can do that including a Stinger and same goes for CBU Sportage which will cost 5.5 Million. While local will cost 35-40 therefore they don’t want to make it another Vitara story by giving people a high figure of 5.5 Million to quote as how expensive Kia is.
About the RIO, as per him the display models are for getting feedback and see the demand. Rio in a 1.0 is a totally false rumour and it will be 1.2 or 1.4. What they want to see is if people would be willing to accept a Rio like hatchback or not in Pakistan. As its not your ordinary small hatchback like Vitz etc but a bigger family hatch or more appropriately a typical European hatch type thing. So Rio even if gets a good feedback is the next step even after Sportage. In coming period they will explore possibilities of more products as well and survey launching other cars as well from their Global line up. It all depends on feedback and public opinion.
I repeat: none of what I said is my opinion or may not be true, what I forwarded is just information as received
