The issue will increase little by little. As it has started to consume oil, its mean one cylinder has developed a problem which will increase with time, may be after doing 10k or 20k etc. But right decision can only be done if engine is opened. Mechanic usually recommend to drive it till engine dies but in that case u have to do entire engine overhauling e.g boring, facing, over sized piston,rings and valves etc etc etc and by doing it now, u may have only to change rings. So its kind of stuck situation. In any case if u have to change rings, do it from some renowned mechanic.
