Alright guys, here i am with another update of my car. The control arms (Chimtay) of the car were completely dead for some time now but i was driving it as it was due to shortage of time (exams closing in :() and because the car itself puts a lot of mileage on it daily, so getting it a few hours off is not easy. however, some time ago, the front left side control arm ball joint started singing the song of its people (tak tak, tuk tuk) while turning. from that moment, i knew i had to do sumthing about it. so, desperate times calls for desperate measures. i called a friend in lahore, asked him to buy a pair of OEM kabuli control arms n ship them to me. he himself was busy so he couldnt do it. the only option that i had in my mind was to get kabuli parts. why? because i had after market chimtas in the car and they suck badly! theres only 1 quality aftermarket arms available n thats chinese (worst quality, sadly i didnt know it when i bought them) brand new OEM arms cost like 9k pkr each!! 18-19k for this job was way out of my budget. the only option left was to get kabuli stuff.
anyways, just 3-4 days ago, i got a call from @mahmood bhai and discussed it with him. pehle tou onho nay meri bisti ki k mujhy ik boht he important bat ka pata he nai tha then he told me that ball joints are sold seperately too (just like bushes) and can be fitted into the arm perfectly. he also sent me a few links to international forums where people were doing the same to their high end cars. that confirmed that its not a "jugaar" or desi totka. its a PROPER fix.
Luckily, i had my OEM control arms lying around under my bed i had them ever since i got them off of my car back in late 2011. i picked them up, put them into the trunk of the car, we to the best honda parts supplier in Sargodha and bought the best quality ball joints available. They are made in Japan and one can feel the quality by their weight. each piece weights a kilo or so. cost was 2200rs (compare this to 3000rs for complete 2 chinese control arms) then i went to a mechanic, got the current arms taken out of the suspension, inspected their bushes, thankfully, they were fine because they were changed in last december and were top quality ones (RBI, 1200rs) so i got the bushes transfered from chinese arms to oem arms and ball joints fixed into the oem arms too. now, what i had in hand were brand new control arms for a total price of just 2800rs (2200rs ball joints + 300rs labor + 300rs kharaad) got them fitted back in and voilaa.. all sounds gone! ride becomes more predictable and solid. im loving it!
all of the above would sound like a mess to most people who dont drive their cars much but thats how a high mileage, daily driven work horse is to be maintained on a budget. This was the best value for money. n all the work was done in front of my eyes. so, im confident about it.
here are some pix for u guys to see. and special thanks to @mahmood bhai for increasing my knowledge
