It is a cover, but it is stitched over and above the original steering wheel after putting a strip on it. So whenever the original one is required, stitches can be cut and it can be removed.
Was thinking of trying this for some time and just by chance the other day went to buy some leather and suede for some interior furnishing and bought a piece of black suede for this experiment. Then took it to poshish guy who cut a strip of steering diameter, placed it on the steering and stiched the edge. This is not like the other stitching people get done after removing the steering. That one ruins the original steering
