Congratulation in advance for your "new car".
Both cars you have short listed are from different leagues.
GLi: Economy, Daily Runner, Lower Maintenance cost
Civic: Brand Image, better interior, more power due to 1.8 cc engine
GLi: Feel under powered at times, road grip is not as good as civic (still not bad if you install good e.g. Michelin tires), easier target for car theft
Civic: Higher maintenance cost, Poor fuel economy, lower road clearance
Both cars are fun to drive.
If you want to keep the car for 3 years or more, then go for GLi. Toyota cars performance (suspension etc.) does not deteriorate with age. Honda Civic suspension is not as sturdy as Toyota and starts having issues, maintenance cost with aging.
This is my personal opinion.
