Murree snowfall: Police to establish control room for smooth traffic flow
RAWALPINDI: Police on Monday decided to establish a control room to ensure smooth flow of traffic during snowfall.
The control room, which is to link police with traffic police, highways, Rescue 1122 and tehsil municipal officer’s office, will be set up in a police checkpoint at Sunny Bank and will remain operational round the clock, said the decision.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Khan Durrani chaired the meeting at Punjab House, Murree. City Police Officer Rao Iqbal, District Coordination Officer Imdadullah Bosal, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Raja Rifat Mukhtar, Highways SE Ghulam Abbas, Tehsil Municipal Officer of Murree Nadeem Sarwar and representatives of Rescue 1122 attended the meeting.
The RPO directed the CTO to liaise with media for issuing necessary traveling and safety instructions to road users.
The meeting also decided Highways Department would deploy more salt spraying teams on snow-covered roads.
According to the decision, the department will divide the area in 10 sectors, each having a complete unit of machinery. Traffic police will line up vehicles and deploy cops on all vulnerable points.
The meeting also agreed to deployment of 100 wardens in Murree during snowfall. The wardens will install public address system at different places for the awareness and guidance of commuters.
