Yes. you are right. The mechanics working on new EFI cars don't take interest in old cars although they are easy to work on. May be cause they ask insane labour charges from owner of new cars. The other day, I was at a workshop and the mechanic took Rs. 2000/- from a guy just for sparking plugs replacement and oil change of a Corolla. I wonder why that guy even went to local mechanic. I always take my Corolla to Toyota 3S and they are not costly for these simple routine maintenance tasks.
Coming back to topic, there are two types of mechanics.
Type one is the kind which will always blame the old age of the car for any problem, instead of solving the actual issue. That does not make sense. Like if the car is over heating, there must be some problem and that should be addressed instead of blaming the car's age. These types of mechanics should be avoided as they don't take interest in making the things right. They want to get rich overnight without doing any hardwork. They always insist that you should buy a latest model car although your car is absolutely fine.
Second type is the one who work with logic and try to remove the fault no matter how old the car is. Proper troubleshooting is very important. The mechanics where I take my car are keen admires of Khyber and they tell me that new cars in this category are not that robust and strong. Also they know that I have kept this car with care in all these years so they give proper time to my car.
