that is not necessary, we bought a toyota corolla gli 2010 140,000km driven and had full service history form toyota dealer since day 1 and had been driven in toyota 20W-50 since day 1, it was quite lethargic and not as good fuel economy as out precious corolla, poured mobil 1 5W-50 and it was much improved with no oil consumption at all even though shopkeeper warned not to do it, i used 5W-50 which is thick, on second changed changed to mobil 1 0W-40 and has stuck with it since then and no oil consumption or smoke or noise problems part from a little more ticking heard from the vvti variation.
the point is if the engine is in good health and has had regular oil changes and seals are good then changing form mineral to synthetic causes no problems what soever, if previously mineral oil has been used and not changed on time and not original oil filter has been used and there is presence of sludge then obviously syntethic is gonna clean all that and cause oil consumtion issues etc.
so regardless of how much driven or what oil previously used if new oil is of good standard and previously maintainece hasn't been skipped it will cause no problems
