Overhauling Cost of 2H

Dear Members,

Toyota 2H on my HJ60 is weak therefore it has blow by issue, my mechanic recommends putting in a 12HT instead of getting 2H overhauled.

Can someone guide/suggest what could be the cost of getting a 2H overhauled if any member has got it done, will appreciate their input.

12HT is more powerful. Mechanic ki baat maan lo bhaai.

do you like to drive an anemic engine? - the 2H is like a arthritic mouse trying to spin an ungreased square wheel.

Thanks for reply, actually I just want to compare the cost associated with getting 2H completely overhauled vs getting a 12HT which would alredy be used for such a long period and getting it overhauled sometime in future.

Get 2H properly overhauled.. finding a good condition 12HT will be a challenge as well.. a properly overhauled 2H should last long

but a 2H is slower than mud and is quite hard to start in frozen tundras.

No doubt 12 HT is a better option for acceleration and economy but my question remains unanswered, how much expense can I expect in getting a 2H overhauled?

depends on how trashed the engine is, go to the market and get some parts quotes, regular stuff like
bearings, rings, gasket set, timing set, valve guides, nozzles, assembly fluids etc.

then to to machinist and ask for rates of work of valve job, bearing regrind, cylinder work etc,

then pay a visit to a diesel lab and ask for calibration of the pump and nozzles.

add up the charge, then ask mechanic of his charge with disposable parts like cleaning stuff.

add 15 to 20% more to the price of what you get in total.
