With IJC's assistance, the first mini-hydel power plant in Kalam started functioning 3 days ago. Its a 15 kVA unit that can supply upto 200 houses. Some photos of the site below from during our visit when work was still ongoing.
It is important to note that the entire city of Kalam (and all surrounding villages) have not had any electricity since the time of the floods. IJC has helped set up the Anakar Village power plant and the Kas Plant in Kalam. Work on at least two more power plants in Kalam is ongoing.
All these units have been manufactured in Pakistan by Mukhtiar Engineering Mardan .:: MUKHTIAR ENGINEERING WORKS ::. who are doing an excellent job in lighting up the Northern Areas of Pakistan by supplying turbines at very reasonable cost from Chitral to Skardu.
