After decades of waiting, the Government of Saudi Arabia has finally started giving driving license to women in the Kingdom. According to the foreign media outlet, general traffic directorate, from 4 June 2018, has started replacing the international license, which the Saudi women have had with them with the Saudi license.
At the initial phase, ten Saudi women have been given the license and that too after exchanging the international ones. Moreover, it is expected that the authorities will issue 2,000 more license to women in the next week.

As per the government, it has set up exchange spots throughout the Kingdom where women can get their national license after a small practical test. The Director-General of the traffic department Mohammed Bassami has said that women will be allowed to drive on roads of KSA from 24th June. All the preparations have been made in this regard, he further said.
Last year the current King of the Kingdom issued a royal decree to let Saudi women acquire drivers’ licenses and drive cars without the permission of a legal guardian.
Aside from Saudi Government empowering the women, the Government of Punjab under Women and Wheels initiative is teaching women how to drive bikes.
