some old cultuses and margalla go till 3.5 lac km or even more, others start acting stupid at 1-1.5 lac or even earlier. things like bad oil choices cause this type of early failure

you probably won't note the difference in a few days.

baki sometimes you get lucky sometimes not, with newer grades. there are too many factors like the oil change interval length, driving habits etc which is why you say that falanay ki gari 1.0 lac chali hai synthetic pey.

lekin tell me, would you get a vaccine or would you rather get the disease and have expensive treatment?

btw the synthetic is a faltoo teeka anyways, it isn't giving your engine proper protection but it is wasting your money.

putting synthetic in a newer Design engine, that is feasible

Lolz...You are talking about Mehran i haven't seen even any FX or even heard of with this problem....where as i have seen many of them getting filled with 20W50 sm oils like Zic Highflo and Havoline

For proper cause of failure you need to know the history and the way car is driven....you cannot just generalize it to the choice of oil. Recently my friend's City 06 about 90k driven started eating oil like hell...the reason was he never changed the oil on time...use to go thousands of KM above limit before changing it...now a third person who doesn't know would say like 'galat oil use kertay rahay ho' etc etc...

That is what this whole thread is all about. that newer grades can b used in flat tappet vehicles. The zddp myth has been busted. Furthermore, how do you justify the success of the users of api sn oils in flat tappet engines. @NiGhTShAdE has been using api sn in his baleno. And @ahmedraja1996 has quoted that mehrans work better on api sn.

because i work on cars for a living many of such failures do not say out loud they were because of the API SN oils - also even in case of a failure, most customers and mechanics do not know why the failure occurred hence the reason of no reports
in my relatively short tenure of work, i have seen at least four such failures - upon inspection the oil used was one of the new API SM or SN oils. So, its not about what I feel or think, its about what i can see - and I will not use such an oil in my mehran or any of such cars of customer's for that matter.

I forgot to mention, you can find cars running on synthetics for a while, the engine is noisy, but the owner dismisses it as an old engine.

it requires some work to know that it isn't general wear and tear, rather abnormal camshaft sound.

I had a very strange experience. I took over our family car mehran. My dad used to pour in pso oils. But I took it over to the mechanic for the oil change. He recommended me to use zic hiflo 20w50 api sm. I got it from a nearby renowned oil dealer and got it poured. Engine became soundless, fuel economy increased but the engine started smoking. I was sure that the engine had given up. but then I shifted to sgo premium 10w40 api sg. Ever since then, there is no smoke at all. Strange!!!!

Well ZDDP has its own role, but first people here don't know basic principles of engine working. Direct pankhay no thermostat and wrong valve clearance are perfect recipe for killing poor engine. A country where people think that by removing AC compressor pulley belt they save fuel and by using aftermarket plugs and wires they can make their cars fly are highly mistaken. I only had one car which had flat tappets that was mehran all others were hydraulic and i used 10W40 API SN, the car is still with me driven 150k in 9yrs. Have replaced timing belt fan belt and water pump. Else i didn't even spent a penny except oil changes and regular valve clearance and carb adjustment.

10w-40 of SL, SM or SN Grade would be ideal.

Use max api sj grade. No newer than that. Santro has flat tappets

cleaning depends on the detergents in the oil
a good diesel engine oil despite being API SL will clean an engine better internally than an API SL oil meant for petrol engines only.

protection depends on the additives in the oil

if an engine calls for an SJ/SL, it will be protected better by an SJ/SL rather than SM or SN

SM/SN aren't backwards compatible as many people say

with new cars you don't have a choice, you put in the wrong oil and you choke the CAT - hence the newer engines are made to run on new grades of oil
