Dear Fellows!
I am a newbie to 4x4 world and have recently purchased a refurbished CJ5. The previous owner does not seem to remember the exact gearbox installed during refurbishment however, he boasts alot about its capability and ease of engaging 4x4 on the move.
I am attaching the picture of the 4x4 lever here. The 4x4 level in my jeep has got only 3 positions (although the mark on the lever claims 5 positions). The bottom position is the normal running position (probably 2H) the central position is neutral and the top position is some 4x4 (4H or 4L, i m not sure). Here are my questions;
1. Which gearbox is this? A partial 4x4, a full time 4x4 or what? Any idea from which vehicle it came from?
2. The bottom position which I presume is 2H, how to confirm it is not 4H? What I understood from details given in this thread that 4H can be engaged and is useable upto any speed the road condition permits.
3. There is this small button on the 4x4 lever. What is this for? If I press it once, it stays depressed and is released if pressed again. What are these positions and what is its function?
Thanks in advance .... Regards
