And finally...the hood ornament.
I think I may have told this story before, but I think I'm going to repeat it, nonetheless.
Sleipnir (pronounced 'slep-near') was the mystical eight-legged stallion belonging to the Norse God Odin (more famous as the Father of Thor, God of Thunder). According to Norse mythology, Sleipnir was the only steed capable of riding to the Underworld (the Norse: "Hel", from where we get the modern "Hell"), and Odin rode him there on occasion. He was reputed to have been "fast of foot, sturdy of carriage, and proud of countenance".
Many ancient paintings, sketches and runes of Sleipnir exist. The sample that I've chosen to be the hood ornament for this eight-legged (eight-cylinder) stallion, is stunning. Visually, and in terms of artistry. These next few pictures will show the wooden "saancha" or mould that we've created for the ornament. Of course, this is only a very rough version, thus far. We will be making many changes and refinements to the overall shape, which will finally be cast in brass, refined and further polished and then coated in beautiful gleaming chrome.
This ornament is going to be the most prominent visual 'mark' on the car. Hopefully, it will turn out to look the part and set the scene for the rest of the car, too.
