You are partially right about the removal of cat converter being illegal. It is definitely illegal abroad. But here there is no concept of cat converters in any locally assembled cars. Hence there is no law against the removal. However, removing the converter IS harmful for the environment. On the other hand the lead in our fuels literally kills the converter rendering it almost useless and choking the engine. To begin with we should urge the OMCs to provide unleaded fuels at all stations.

I say you made an excellent choice with buying a Vitz. I too had all my friends laughing when I went for a vitz (2004 auto) last year in October. Paid 635k for it. So far its trouble free. They said they would buy it for 4 lakhs when I go to sell it. Now after almost a year their mouths are shut

Although this question has been asked and answered several times, I will gladly tell you about the "Catalytic Converter" aka CAT. Foreign standards and guidelines need all vehicles to reduce emission of harmful exhaust gases as much as possible. One such gas is Carbon Monoxide (CO), which is a dangerous form of the harmless Carbon Dioxide (CO2). The catalytic converter is a special alloy made of platinum and other metals. Its honey comb like structure increases the surface area for the gases to combine with left over oxygen and turn in to harm less CO2 and water vapour. In this process the alloy acts as a catalyst, hence the name catalytic converter.
In vitz we have two of these converters installed. One is on the front side right where the silencer pipe joins the engine, and the other is on the under side drum of the silencer.

You can start with the one on the front side near the engine as this CAT is nearest to the engine and if there is any blocking due to lead in the fuel, this CAT will get blocked first. Then if there is any need you can go for the second one as well. In my case I have removed the first one and I am not looking forward to removing the second one in the near future.

Well if you get the job done from professionals then there is no change in the engine sound. At least, I feel no difference at all. Secondly, I dont know if there is any way to confirm that the CAT is blocked other than seeing with one's own eyes. If any one else knows how to find this out then please share it with us as well.

i also heard about replacing cat coverters with free-flow cat converters or cat-back exhaust. Have you tried it or can we buy it from anywhere in pakistan?

btw i used to catch 110km or 115max on cng on g.t roads, but few days back i went to islamabad from jhelum, when i reached a flat surface in gujar khan, i tried to catch some speed and wow! it reached to 140km on gas with ac on at 2 points, i could have gone 150+ because i had not pressed the accelerator fully, but i was a lil scared of cops and a few curves, but it was exciting (btw i was going alone.)

that is very good that your car reaches 140 on cng but did you noticed any mileage difference that day cos one day i drived my car constantly on that speed but it gave me only 115 kms on full tank,what was your experience?

I dont think free-flow cat converters or cat-back exhausts are available here, but their concept is the same, that is, to reduce the back pressure to allow greater torque at the same horse power level. Please be careful when driving at such high speeds. As the popular saying goes "Speed thrills but kills ! "

I bought a Vitz 2005 the new shape some weeks back - I got it fitted with cng ( landi renzo) - now i have big trouble with cng - the idle rpm is dropping low and when it goes low everything electrical shuts down

I have tried some ppl for getting the tuning - but they say that there is no tuning for this car - u can change the spark plugs and the air filter only ( as the accelerator is wireless )

More over when i drive it on CNg the petrol tuning goes badly out and then car cannot run on petrol The mechanics say this model can run only on 1 option CNG OR PETROL

this is not the end - the dvd navigator inside is NDDN W56 it says " No Map Disc inserted " where to download this software from guys - - - - HELP HELP HELP HELP !
