So, are you ready to pay at least. Rs. 150/ L to fill up tank of your new City ? Oil prices have started creeping already. How many people even pay for high octane in their 1.8 Corolla or 1.8 Civic which is around 4 Million car? Majority use super /91 Octane which has the actual issue as far as blending.
It's all an eyewash. An imported fuel will cost an arm and leg. Government should enforce local refineries to update their production facilities for Euro 5 or up fuel because Euro 5 will not be cheap as import and the major population will still use the locally produced low quality fuel which has high percentage of MMT.
Oil companies don't want to invest towards better crude oil refinery procedures and relying on import. The major local produce will still be low quality fuel. If HOBC cost 142.. the Euro5 will be same or higher.. we can't fill each and every pump with imported fuel so, I dont see any benefit to mass consumer and any benefit to environmental protection and any benefit to automobile manufacturers or owners.
What I think, these OMC will sell Euro5 on their pumps along with High octane. The Super currently we have will remain as super with so called 91 octane which is a local blend.
