DIY CVT FLUID CHANGE

TOOLS REQUIRED
6mm hexagon key.
24mm spanner.

PROCEDURE
Drain and refill. Refill the exact amount which was drained.

LEVEL CHECK PROCEDURE RECOMMENDED BY TOYOTA
The fluid level should be checked between 36°C to 46°C temperature. As you guys know that the fluid expands as temperature increases so before 36°C and after 46°C if you drain the the fluid the transmission will be filled with wrong amount of fluid. Between the specific temperature when the drain the bolt is opened the oil should drip, one drop of fluid every second.

PROCEDURE I FOLLOWED
Simple Drain and Refill procedure.

FLUID DRAINING PROCEDURE
I opened the drain bolt and approx 200ml to 500ml oil was drained. Then I opened the plastic fluid level check tube and then approx 1.8L to 2L fluid was drained. Then I jacked up the car from rear to drain more fluid because if we see the drain bolt location it is located at the front upper side of chamber. By jacking up the car from rear the front end went down and the fluid moved towards the upper side of the chamber and more fluid was drained. Then I measured the fluid that was drained it was 2.3L.

FLUID REFILLING AND LEVEL CHECK METHOD
I refilled the transmission with approx 2.5L of CVT FE fluid. And then started the car after few minutes I changed the gears few times to circulate the fresh fluid in gearbox. After 10 minutes the gearbox temperature went up to 38°C and I opened the drain bolt and the thin stream of fluid drained for few seconds after that the oil started to drip and I closed the drain bolt.

How did you measure the exact temps?

I was under the impression that the 1kr-fe i have uses a TC fluid. can you guide further in this regard?

If you drained the old fluid and filled the exact amount, you have to keep the old and new fluid in the same room for a couple of hours in order to get them to the same temperature. Otherwise, your measurements will be off.

why didnt you replace the transmission filter while you were at it?

I measured the temperature with techstream scanner. For 2014 and onwards model FE is recommended. Before 2014 TC was recommended.

He didnt open the pan. He just drained and fill.

An OBDII scanner can measure CVT temperature and connect to techstream??? Can the whole process be DIY if all tools are there?

Pan have magnets and they should be cleaned but not at this mileage.

You can easily check transmission temperature with techstream. And the whole process can be DIY if you have all tools.

and secondly, how to calibrate with techstream?

Opening again is necessary to check the fluid level and adjust it if its not correct. What you did after 10 minutes was correct procedure and now your car transmission fluid level is properly adjusted.

In techstream go to Engine and Etc settings then reset the memory and first calibrate deceleration sensor after that calibrate transmission oil pressure. When you click on calibration it will give you instructions and follow that.
