    Default Toyota 4K Engine modification

Salam guys. Just a have a few question's to ask.

I've been thinking of buying a 80 or 82 toyota corolla and some of the pre planned mods are spinning in my head about performance upgrade.

So far so bad I've though of installing these parts on a KE70 to produce some HP. But the real question is how much will it gain?

Also I'm open to any suggestions.

Gonna spend 40K so will these specs gonna do the trick or should i do any thing else?

1.MSD coil and heavy duty spark plug wires.
2.Quad throttle Heavy Bike Carburetor. ( I.e: Suzuki Bandit carburetor. )
    3.Nissan Petrol Fuel pump.
    4.4k Engine Lifter Valve shims
    5.Port polish and skimmed head.

the 4K engine is a very oldschool engine, It cannot rev high (ohv design) - its best in low down torque, and to get respectable power from it, you need a big cam and a weber carby.

    The original dizzy is good.

The head is not crossflow design and suffers from pumping losses, Dont expect miracles..

    a little advice.

K motors, although indestructible, requires too much time and money to upgrade with very little gains. Go through this article for more info: Tech:Engine/K Series/How to build a tough K motor - Rollaclub
But the question is, will it do a burnout?

Read the forum here and this guy is using 4k engine in a KP61. Saying the 4k engine with bike carby is producing above 100HP. At first i was like ok this guy is obviously lying but then again I'm curious. Check this site.

You'll spend a lot, and mod it a lot to get the best out of it, and yet the best out of a 4K is just the base power of modern engines.

Hmmmm interesting. Any suggestions? I got 40K to spend not into power like the guys are putting up like 4efte or 4afe or 1jz or 1uzfe. I just want something that's gonna be fun to drive and may be a little bit faster than the original.

I'm not sure about the 40K value in my currency but here is a set-up we did to a friend's 5K and yielded surprising result.

    Ported & Polished
    4-carb side draft
A worked Cam for daily use, just a step over stock or "stage 1" but gave it a little rocky idle and easy rpm climbs.
    Lightened & balanced Flywheel.
    Lightened or Aluminum Pulleys
    Electronic Dizzy
    E-Fan.

We also did something to the valves which I forgot the name to that mod we did, just above the valve seat we machined off a few metals on the valve to make it like a slope instead of the bulging stock configuration.. We saw the mod from a SPOON magazine and we copied it LOLs.

the valve thingie is called "unshrouding" its to make the area around the valves approximately 105% the size of the max valve lift area.

The 5K has hydraulic lifters usually in 4K the solid lifters can cause some limitations to such activity.

And I forgot to mention the 5K had adjustable tappets, rockers must have been cannibalized from a 4K, it was fun working on rock solid engines

the overhead rockers are adjustable but the lifters which are sitting above the cam are solid in 4K. btw - you skimmed the valves - Im sorry to cause confusion, the unshrouding is done on the head in the combustion chamber.

hmm - I didnt know that toyota put in stock TRD items.

the original timing chain in an older 4K (1980-81) corolla was duplex, the valve guides were phosphor bronze too.

Keinhin Flat CV carburetors.. It's right there my friend, what he used is a Honda CBR900rr carburetor i think. I'm not professional every body. I'm just turning 21 (Allah ka shukkar mujhy zinda rakha) and i just have very few knowledge in automobile. The idea of the 4k mod came from the very site that you browsed in the past (toyota starlet rwd on bike carbs | Retro Rides). The reason to post this thread was to know if I'm gonna do something different and right or going to do something stupid and ridiculous. I don't know. . .

Just received some comment on my KE70 group that he's saying that if I'm gonna do that I'll be gaining 50 to 60KW. And now I'm so stocked to know that I'm *coughs* I meant my future 4k will be building 142.09HP. [ 4k engine: 46KW+60KW= 106KW. KW into HP: 106KW = 142.09HP] WOOOO HOOOOO!!!! gonna be fast as legit!

We had no access to Dynos back in those days, but yes it was more powerful at higher RPMs and was Exhilarating to drive.
