Just to update members, the car was giving problems (mentioned earlier) only if the level of petrol in the tank decreased to nearly 25%. As soon as petrol is filled and the level rises, the problem does not happen. Anyways, since I keep atleast half of the petrol tank always filled, I did not face the same problem for next two months.
Then one fine day, an unusual continious noise started coming from somewhere near the gear knob. This noise was like if something was trying to rotate/revolve. I thought it was something related to the gearbox and which is why I took the car to the Honda Drive-in 3s dealer in Karachi.
Initially, one of the advisors thought it was related to the gearbox and said that they will have to open and check it out. However, another advisor (who seemed to have a bit of technical knowledge) said it was the fuel pump and not the gear box that was making this noise.
I told the guy that this problem initially started when i got fuel filled from one of the non-trusty petrol pumps. He told that the cost of a new fuel filter would be nearly Rs 3500/- including taxes however a new fuel pump would cost nearly Rs 30,000/- so it is advisable to get the fuel filter replaced first and check if the issue resolves.
But unfortunately, today, even after changing the fuel filter, the issue still remains however, the noise has reduced. The Honda advisor informed that the fuel pump is not working effectively which is why not enough petrol is being pumped and the car suffocates after every couple of minutes.
The only option before I get the fuel pump replaced is to utilize all the petrol in the tank and refill from one of the trust worthy petrol pumps to check if it is the petrol that is the issue or the fuel pump.
I would like experts to comment and suggest on this thread and also confirm if the price quoted to me at Honda dealer for the fuel pump of a Honda City 2008 is Rs 30,000/-.
