salam everyone
Apologies in advance if this question has been asked before but in my defence I searched the site and i couldn’t find any information about it.
Without going too much into details, I have a query and i was wondering if one of you nice knowledgeable gentleman can help me with.
so I have to come to Pak to work for a year (might actually stay longer if i survived).
I love cars and as a hobby i tune them. I have tuned mostly all my cars (german and japanese), things like body kits, lowered suspensions, bigger turbo, compressor, NOS or even simple things like remapping the ECU (depending on what the car can handle and pocket can afford:) ).
now i checked for temporarily importing my present car to Pakistan but am quoted 500% of car price by RAC for a thing called "Carnet de Passage en Douane" to take my car with me temporarily. (Yes! import duty is less but my car is older than 5 years so can’t import)
I also have a kit car, which I use for track days and when it’s sunny here, its nothing spectacular, just a 2 litre pinto twin Webbers engine that gives good 0-60 and bit of noise from its twin exhausts. I built it in 2002. SO I was wondering,
1: What’s the law regarding import of kit car?? is it treated same way as a car ?
2: What if I break it into pieces, send body panels and chassis separately and engine separately with luggage? My colleagues have done it when moving to US and it worked!!
In case you thinking why I don’t just buy a car in Pakistan, then the answer is I can't afford a new car in Pakistan, too expensive. (£2500 Accord is selling in Pakistan for over £15000 )
So not unless I can buy a neat classic car and built it myself (which I don’t know what the possibilities of finding the right one is) I will be on my skateboard
Will appreciate any feedback.
