Default Advise me about VITZ ECU reset

    Dear Pakwheelers !

I was facing bad caverage, loss of power and decreased pick in my vitz 2005 from quite some time.

In the first instance i got the engine oil changed as well as oil filter and replaced air filter

with genuine Denso one but felt no improvement.

Yesterday I made the throttle body washed with cleaning fluid and changed the plugs with original

Denso iridium tipped. I also got its Cat Converter removed and O2 sencer cleaned. After that I

    noticed the following changes :

    a) The pick has somewhat improved.

    b) There is an increase in engine sound .Increase in RPM is also quite noticeable.

    c) The acceleration pedal feel a bit soft.

    d) Improvement in average has not yet been calculated.

To solve the problem of elevated RPM my mechanic has advised me to reset its ECU by unplugging

battery's -ve terminal for 1 or 2 minute before plugging it againn.

I request your advice regarding :

    1. Is this the correct way to reset ECU.

    2. Will the reset have any negative effects on engine performance?

    3. How else can i further increase the pick and average?

    Thanx

and yeah, after you reset, take your car out for a good drive of about 15 to 20 kilometers, so that the computer can 're-learn' the parameters and inputs from various sensors.

    Thanx all who positively replied.

I have made the ECU reset as advised. The RPM has considerably dropped to normal limitz and engine noise has reduced. Average has yet to be calculated.

One thing more that after the CAT removal , can the identical readings of both the O2 sensers sent to ECU make it puzzled and resultantly effect engine performance??

    Thanx

No, not really. You'll be fine without it. All you needed to do is reset the ECU.
