my friend has a 2005 model vitz...the car developed starting problem in morning nd the battery was also weak..we jump started the car nd rest of the day it started easily..the next morning it refused to start even on jump starting..after struggling for whole day,no fault was found..fuel pump,injectors,spark..evrything is fine..it cranks but doestnt start...cheked obd2 codes nd evrything is clear....the mechanic says it has lost compression nd needs a new assembly(??)

now i cant understand how all of sudden it can loose compression..mechanic says pressure rings are out(??)car is on petrol nd engine nd it didnt consume oil...

    need help from experts asap

do a compression test then consider the options - engines do not lose compression overnight. A compression tester can be bought for Rs 1000 - much cheaper than swapping or overhauling an engine.

secondly check the injectors with a noid light or something similar that they are pulsing and check the coils that a spark event is actually taking place. The symptoms you mention usually lead to a bad crankshaft position sensor making the engine go completely dead - no injector pulse, no spark. OR a bad MAF - in this case the engine should start but die as soon as you leave the key

@xulfiqar: fuel nd ignition both r present..so my guess is a bad maf sensor.

    few questions to answer.

    Was car wating oil before?

How was the pick yesterday when you jump start it?

Was any smoke from silencer prior to this problem.?

    Whats the milage?

I think your mechanic has put a reasonable guess, and yes cars can loose compression realtively suddenly. Avoid too many diagnostics, and if answer of above questions are in faour of weak engine, then you have the answer of your problem.

@bluespark: car is on petrol ,mileage 80k..it had normal pick when last drivern..no engine oil consumption..no oil burning blue smoke...engine was in perfect condition..a weak engine which has low compression eats lot of oil which is not da case here

do a compression test to further finalize your diagnosis - sudden compression loss is usually due to burnt valves - happens in these type of toyota engines as the valve lifters are completely solid with no adjustment

more to confirm - a dead engines starter will not sound normal - it will more sound like a juicer rather than a starter motor

Take it to Toyota or Nazir Autos.
It must be a problem with the sensors. Dont jump to engine change so quickly.

if you have positive spark and fuel injector pulse you have a working crank sensor, your problem lies elsewhere

@poster first of all work on the earth wiring if its loose or not properly connected.
then look for your self is it weak?or needs a cleanup?
to me these two thing might b the possibility of this problem.
@tayyabbaig when timing is out car does not starts at any case easily but the poster has mentioned he did it by a jump start so it does not seems as a timing problem.
