Default My new ride Vitz 2006, fresh import

    Asalam-o-Alikum warahmatullah,

I was planning to upgrate my Cultus Vxli 2008 for last three months. There was a big tie between Toyota vitz and Suzuki Swift. Both rides are awesome, but I had to pick one. So, in the end I picked Toyota Vitz. The main reason to pick it was the lack of auto transmission in Suzuki Swift.

Second tie was in between 1.3L and 1.0L versions. Though 1.0 is the best if one wants to save fuel and taxes but I required power too. So I opted for 1.3 version.

I will use this thread to keep you all updated about the ride inshAllah.

    Ooops. OK.

Well this is again a very difficult question. There are so many views about this thing.

After few discussions I came to the conclusion that this converter needs to be maintained very well. The fuel in Pakistan and the environment makes it in bad condition very fast. Due to accumulation of various carbon containing compounds it makes the breathing of engine difficult. This causes drag on engine. More bad the catalytic converter will go, further bad will become the drag on engine. And this may lead to serious damage to engine.

Many pakwheelers suggest to clean the converter with various tactics. You can search the threads. One pakwheeler said that one can clean the converter by putting muffler in hot water and slowly pass water through it.

The catalytic converter removal changes the sound of vitz. The sound increases. Plus the emissions from the engine become further bad for atmosphere.

I thought alot and in the end I concluded that I must get rid of it as I do not have much time to spend cleaning it. It is tough to remove whole muffler every few thousand Kms and clean the converter. And it is also tough to conclude that the converter will really get cleaned. and who will tell that the converter needs cleaning when we cannot see it?

So, I chose to simply remove it and get myself rid of all bla bla bla.

Now noise has been changed but i am happy that I do not need to think about the drag and stuff.

thats all. If you want to keep it it's your choice. Many rides in the world work with these converters and they are doing fine. Here I do not know why hum bohat jald dar jatay hain Anyways please do search other threads extensively before comming to any decision. and do update me what you have decided and why.

    regards,

Hmmm. It's again a tough question. I remember one pakwheeler was so annoyed with the changed sound. But if you ask me. It is OK for me. It is not that good, but it is not that bad either. Ab kuch to tradeoff kerna hi ho ga na. Either keep the converter or live with the sound

    Good luck

Just to put on record, I had used my previous Vitz 2004 model for 4+ years and never had to remove the CAT converter. I heard many people advising to remove it but I never had any such problems as heavy engine etc.

Now with my new Vitz 2007 model I will have to wait and see. Just one thing, I have always filled my fuel from Caltex company operated pumps.

Ahan that's nice. It is strange that many people removed the converters due to the heavy engine complain and they claim that after cat removal the problem was solved. Strange!

That means Caltex oil is better right? Thats a good information. JazakAllah.

While octane number of petrol in Pakistan is lower than that in Japan (on which Vitz 1.0 is designed to bare minimum), this situation is further worsened by petrol pump owners who mix Iranian oil (unfiltered / poor quality) with refined oil to increase its quantity, or else simply don't give a litre for a litre cost. This seriously tests Vitz' engine and CAT gets choked.

Thankfully, I get my car refueled from a PSO pump in my company's premises and hence never faced fuel quality issues. People in cities have to often add Hi-Octane fuel just to maintain the car.

Yar, if you have bought the genuine one, it has UP with arrow printed on it. Simply insert the UP side on upside

It should look like a tray when inserted. The UP symbol should be on the side away from you and towards the car windshield.

    Hope I'm clear.

    @Mortal

Always use genuine toyota air filter. Don't experiment Guard and others with Vitz at least. It is a small cost, but will result in good results. Think of it as an investment.

Regarding cabin air filter, it is a DIY. I have cleaned it many times. You may find it in DIY section of PW. One word of advise though...Genuine cabin air filter costs around 3.5k; not worth the money I guess. I have installed a local brand one for ~ Rs. 400 and it works just as well. It is not a big deal anyway
