    Default Vitz Mileage can't get better than 12 !

    Guys - need some expert opinion.

    I just bought a 2001 Vitz for my younger brother and was surprized to know that despite changing oil, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter and cleaning the plugs, the car was not giving more than 11 to 12KM/Liter. He even got the sensors (AFM?) cleaned but no luck. The vehicle has thin/regular tyres but still....... Any suggestion?

    Another friend of mine's Vitz does more than 16 KM/liter. What should i do????

    all i can suggest here is get O2 sensor checked as it seems ur car's unable to reach that stoiciometric ratio, btw hows the condition of engine.

    * i assume ur driving style complies with fuel saving tech. with that auto tranny.

    Throttle foot of ur younger brother might be too hard coz 16 + average in city is i think best possible consumption which needs light throttle foot too.

    thanks Robin. Engine is in pretty good condition. As a matter of fact it outperform many other Vitzes I have test driven. Probably that is why it is conduming more fuel. I wil get the O2 sensors checked.

    The best check you can do whether the sensors are working or not, the presence of Black Smoke out of the exhaust muffler. Do complete checkup of all sensors through OBD-II scanner (ask the Toyota Authorized Workshop for the availability [I think they must have a compatible one])

    @testdriver:

    It surely is a good idea BUT toyo rawal were unable to diagnose ABS fault though they pocket some Rs. 2500/- for that OBD-II.
    btw, there is a place behind CDA/Capital Hospital and those guys service imported/ambassy vehicles. that seemed good to me.

    Are you talking about mileage with AC or without AC?
    Vitz will do about 13-14 Km /Litre in city like Karachi with AC on almost all the time, without AC, it might exceed 15 KM/Litres. It also depends a lot on factors like you do long drives or short stints, because O2 sensor takes time to heat up to working temperature every time you start and until that time, engine uses more fuel. You can see that your driving habits can change mileage by almost 3 Kms a litre or even more

    Secondly, if sensors are a problem, you should get a "Check Engine" light. If it is not there, there is a little chance that there is problem with sensors. Also, the type of petrol you are using also makes a difference. Try using a mixture of Hi-octane and super (about 50 50) and check the mileage, please post it here.
    Regards
    Deloy
