    Question Vitz 2005 Gear Swap (Or Market Contact)

    A.A. Everyone,

    I got a little careless with my car's maintenance and the gear of my 2005 vitz has started giving trouble. Tried transmission oil change and consulted mechanic but nothing worked. Sometimes it jumps second gear and back gear produces noise. Engine model is 1SZ-FE 1.0 L.

    So then, I was wondering if any Vitz owner on here wants to replace their engine to go for a bigger one, and whether you can sell me the Gear of your car. Alternatively, please share contact of anyone in Peshawar or Quetta who might have GearBox for Vitz 2005.

    I'm also open for converting it to 2SZ-FE 1.3L if I get a good deal.

    Please advise!

    Thanks,
    -me

    I would NOT recommend opening it here in Pakistan.

    Its a pretty simple automatic, a smaller version of regular toyota FWD corolla boxes and has an electronic valve body - making it a bit easier too.

    Thats what my mechanic friend has advised me. He says 1.3 would be a way better experience. The second hand market in Lahore is Bilal Ganj, but I tried couple of units from there which turned out to be faulty so we returned them (there is a 3 days check warranty)

    @Xulfiqar

    Bro, thats indeed one option but the overhaul would be as expensive as the new gearbox, and it wouldn't be reliable either because no mechanic who I talked to is sure if the repair would work perfectly. I also went to 3S dealer workshop, and they gave the same response that an overhaul wont ensure perfect function.

    @SER_GTR

    Yeah, I want to go for Kabuli. Do you know anyone in market there ?

    @Proverbial_Slang

    Agreed mate!

    So anyone knows a place or can hook me up with a specific person who sells gearbox, or engine+geabox (1.3)

    Thanks!

    LOL...Better Than Trying Your Luck On 2nd Hand Stuff Rather Than Trying Your LUCK On Inexperienced Laasi Dimagh Mechanics...! They Will Mess It Somehow..2nd Hand Stuff Atleast Have Checking Warranty..!

    It Also Depends On COST....If Cost Is TOO Much.....Repair Is The Only Option....! Good or Bad...

    If Anyone Out There Is Actually Working In Overhauling These Gears And Spares Are Available Then I See No Issue Rebuilding It...! That's How It Goes Across Globe But Its PAKISTAN System He Alag Ha...!

    There are a bunch of mechanics that can repair it by replacing all the friction parts and seals, if you have badly scored hard parts - then your only option in Pakistan is to get used hard parts (there are tons of them in the scrap market).

    If the toyota dealership told you to replace instead of repair - never ever trust them again with your car, they obviously have no idea what they are doing.

    Installing a junk transmission in expectancy of life is not wise - you never know what happened to it in its past life and if its running oil was ever compromised (even sitting in the junk)

    I would go with zulfiqar on the opinion that a used cvt gear box is risky since the oil after sometime becomes slag .. how will you flush this sealed system .. keep it as last choice ... a few days back i visited NAZIR AUTOS i/8 , islamabad .. a very famous shop which repairs / tunes all the white elephants like bmws, mercs, etc .. anyway, i was there for a few hrs getting my car tuned and the chota ustaads (2 pathan guys in 20s) on shop were assembling the automatic gear box of ALTIS .. the owner of car was not around but i noticed twi things 1. the were good at their job 2. they had knowledge about auto gears ... one of them said that he had opened and repaired CVT gear box as well ....

    search PW for the shop tele nos and give them a call it might be helpful .. tuning receipt is in my car .. if u don't find the shop contact no let me know i'll post it here

    I see your point fellows, it makes sense to me. I think i'll go for repair option first. Would prefer a good gear mechanic in Lahore though, as I can't travel any time soon.

    BTW, some used gears are from accidented cars, and come with a 3-4 day check warranty. If such gears dont work then we always have the option to go back to car's own (stock) gear.

    this gear is not CVT - its a regular 4 spd auto with lockup converter - it is required to use Toyota T-IV fluid in it. If you put something else you will get judder as these boxes have a partial lockup feature which require T-IV ATF which can handle that.

    what is price of a used gear box ... a gearbox from accidented car is nor a bad option ... check warranty will still cost you some amount like transportation .. replacement, etc

    u mean vitz 05 doesn't have cvt ?

    ^ I checked Quetta's market through a friends contact, his initial findings are that a Kabuli gearbox for my vitz would cost 10K.

    This price seems very reasonable if its as good a gearbox as quoted by him. Becuase here in Lahore it would cost 25K to even 40K from Bilal Gunj as these guys have gone crazy with their asking prices!

    ^ guess what, they buy all these engines gears by weight and pay the the price per kg and then rip us off.

    Have you been to Model Town A Block market (near goga channa)? There are some reasonable gear repair shops there. Try your luck on the current one before you buy the new one.

    Thanks for the advise Farhan. No, haven't been to Model Town A block market, but i'm leaning towards going there to see if the current gear can be fixed.

    Wish me luck guys
