    Default Need help for vitz

    AOA,

I have vitz 2004 model (old shape) 1000cc, auto, Petrol. From past few months i am facing a problem related to its starting.
Its starts on 2 short selfs (ignition) OR 1 long self.
But if i start it just after turning it off it starts normally. However after starting it in any condition it runs smoothly.

The steps i have taken place to resolve the issue are:

    1. Fuel injectors cleaning (Ultra sonic bath cleaning)
    2. Fuel pump changed
    3. Fuel filter changed
    4. Spark plugs/air filter changed
    5. Coolant temperature sensor changed
    6. Air flow sensor changed
    7. New battery (AGS GL-50)
    8. Fuel Pressure Regulator changed

But the issue is still there. I don't know what to do now to get rid of this problem. I have already spent much on this but all in vain.

Hope someone can help me.. Thanks!!

Thanks for ur suggestions @argtr65, @capsat

Can you please tell me where this fuel pressure regulator is located in vitz 2004?

Although i still doubt about it, as i have already mentioned above, if i start the car within 1~2 mins after shutting it of it starts normally, but after this time period, it takes longer self or 2 short selfs. If there is some problem in the regulator i think it should perform the same in both conditions. What do you say?

    @Rhagvan

I have recently got the valves and the tappets checked, and according to the mechanic the tappets were fine. And there is only starting problem, once it starts its not even shaky irrespective of cold or hot weather conditions too...

Also, can someone plz confirm that the fuel pumps runs with the engine cranking and not on the On position (where the power windows or the meter lights comes up). Like in my other car honda city i have checked that the fuel pump pre runs before the engine starting for about 3~5 secs. But in my vitz its not the case, the fuel pump gets the power along with the self.

Thanks for sharing the detailed diagrams. I have got the pressure regulator and i am going to replace it tonight. It makes sense that the pressure regulator might b faulty, so i am going replace it too.. High hopes that it will solve my problem. I'll definitely share the results after changing it. *fingers crossed*

check that FPR by actually checking the pressure at the fuel rail. Replace if necessary and retest.

The toyota fuel pump circuit only works while cranking and when the engine registers more than 400 rpm on the crank sensor or idle speed airflow at the MAF depending on the type of system being utilised. Honda activate the pump for 2 seconds before cranking like most other car manufacturers.

Ok i have changed the Fuel Pressure Regulator but unfortunately the problem still exists

Before changing it i have checked the fuel pressure by disconnecting the fuel in-let pipe connecting to the fuel injectors rail.
The fuel pressure was good, as in the bottle quickly filled, but one thing i noticed it that while cranking the fuel started coming out but stopped for a second, like there was a one second gap in the fuel supply while cranking it.
However i haven't tested it after changing the FPR. I don't know if it is normal or what.

What should be the next step now?

After changing the FPR there is a very sligh improvement. At morning it started as always in 2nd time but it started in 1st time when i started it after my office, though it took a long ignition but however it managed to start on the 1st time.

I took very few pics as my hands were all filled with petrol at the time of changing it.

    for reference pics are attached:

umm you checked pressure by flow of fuel?

    which calculation did you apply?

btw the test the fuel pump power circuit with a test lamp while cranking - if you see it go off for a second you have a problem in the circuit opening relay. Mostly seen in cars with "fudged immobilisers" or bad ignition circuit.

is that actually new or a used replacement? and to test pressure you need a pressure gauge.
