Exclamation Few of the issues I am facing with Vitz.. Please guide ASAP

    Salam PakWheelers,
I have '07 Vitz (facelift) version with 1kr-fe engine. After last tuning from Toyota Multan Motors, I have been facing few issues which I didn't when I have it done there last time (in August).
    Things that were done:

1- Throttle body removed & cleaned.
2- MAF Sensor (or something similar) was removed & cleaned.
3- Air filter was removed & cleaned (New Installed in December)
4- Plugs were removed & cleaned (I have installed Iridium last August)

It worked fine for couple of days, pick & no knocking but suddenly its feeling heavy, taking a lot of power to accelerate & knocking is some what increased at lower speeds (when accelerator is pushed). The only that got changed after tuning was, I got it filled with Total Fuel (which I use on regular basis).

    Issues are:
1- Very heavy, taking a lot of load to accelerate
2- Making a lot of sound as if I am asking a lot of power from it
    3- Knocking a lot.

Another issue is electrical, sometimes, all electrical things in the car including headlights, original japanese player, internal lights gets restart (just a flicker). Sometimes, when I self the car, it goes dead, than I have to push battery a little & then it works :s Battery was tested and it was about 11.45v instead of 12 which should not be very much an issue.

These all issues started with in a week & I have no idea what to do, specially under powered car

BTW, engine oil was replaced in December too, used the last one, Shell Helix Ultra, Oil Filter was changed as well.

    Please guide.

    Thanks!!!

Which engine oil have you been using?

According to the situation you mentioned, it seems like the catalyst converter is choked..but this is one of the simpler problems out of the many which can lead to such situation

Get it scanned and post results here if possible

    And clean your battery terminals

Check voltage at battery with engine idling it should be between 14 to 14.4 volts

I have been using Shell Helix Ultra 5w-30. It's only driven 850 kms on new oil change.

Okay, I just tested my battery with voltameter I have.. when it's off, its at 11v. When I start it, and keeps the car at idle, it goes up to 13. I guess 1 cell if weak or dead. But can this dead cell cause this much issue?

BTW, terminals are cleaned now & proper fixed. I hope it does not get dead like before.

I'll have it scanned tomorrow morning. Shops were closed on Friday & I have to travel to Lahore too :s

The only other thing I observed now was.. My idle RPM (Yes, my vitz is double meter ) was at 1100 which is above than it usually is (700 - 800). It stayed there even after cool indicator went off. So I stepped a little and kept car at 2000 - 3000 rpm for half a minute, and let it go, than it went down to 900 - 1000.

Another thing that is happening is, when for example, I steer my steering to extreme left / right, rpm drops and I can clearly feel the difference in engine noise, similarly, when I open door & indicator flashes, I can feel the same difference when they turn on / off. I also have HID instead of fog lamps, so when I start them, rpm drops a lot (like 400 - 500).

What do you think all these issues are linked too? Generator? :s

Note. I am no expert, this is just what i think

Turning steering either to the left or right- RPM drops? Probably because EPS is using more power than your alternator can generate.
HID as fog lamp- Astaghfirullah btw hehe. Same issue, when your car cannot provide the current you actually need, expect it to burden the engine.

My guess would be to check if your alternator is charging your battery properly. I think it should be between 13.8 to 14.2 Volts or was it Amperes...? i would say Amperes.. Good luck
Turbo lag is like foreplay. You know it's coming. And it's gonna be good.

Not yet, I haven't got it scanned. Will let you know guys tomorrow. At this point, I am inclined towards changing the battery. What maximum size would be good? Which one has better life? Right now it's AGS CNG 65 I think.

    ags/exide has better life.....
have you checked the resistance between negative terminal and the body/engine.it should be zero(approx)

How can I test that ?
Last week I have got it tested with a battery person, and it said that it has 11500 gravity instead of 12000 so the cell is weak, might give trouble, so may be it is the reason ?

umm - your battery is INSANE.

SG is measured agaisnt a "given constant" i.e. water which has a specfic gravity of 1.000 - meaning 1000ml = 1000gm

battery mixture SG is 1.270 meaning 1000 ml of it weighs 1270 gms.

How did you deduce the SG to be in thousands?

lol sorry, it should be above 1200, and it came out 1750 something. Things are messing with my head
Can you put some light on all the issues ? I guess it all goes down to battery.

high SG means low water content - add water to bring down the SG and make sure all are equal. Before adding water, make sure the battery is fully charged - and adjust SG at room temperature with charged battery. Then charge again.

This sort of failure sounds like

1 - overcharging voltage (loss of ground)
    2 - bad battery
3 - overload of charging system - causing battery draw.

Yeah, your charging voltage at idle is too low. . So start diagnosing in the order xulfiqar bhai specified

Aah.. replying after a while. Anyhow, I went to an electrician next day & he asked me to get it checked via computer. Anyway, I got my vitz diagnosed via Computer & everything was fine, none of the sensors were malfunctioning, current was fine, RPM was fine, I asked to re-check couple times more, and everytime results were fine. None of the issue came up :/

I went back & replaced my battery. Since then, everything is working fine. I haven't used the car in the city to test if it's working fine now on shorter trips, but I went to Lahore & then back to Multan. Kept the speed 80-100 this time and the it only consumed Half Tank from Multan to Lahore (340 kms) & also half on the way to Multan. Average was 17 on highway, which was usually 11 - 12 for me @ 120 km/h.

Now any more suggestions after above details? Should I still replace my O2 sensors or have them washed along with CAT?

Check your charging voltage at idle and about 2000 rpms again

If your charging system is not good then this battery has the same fate...

    Thanks!!!
