    Default Vitz 2007 Starting issue

    Hello all Pakwheelers!

The car in question is a 2007 model Vitz, auto tranny cvt, Push button start.

    Problem:
Lately I ma having trouble in starting the car. It takes long self(good 5 to 7 seconds) but fails to start. Got it checked by a mechanic who found petrol in the spark plugs, told me the car got OVER. He dried up the spark plugs and reinstalled them and car started without any hitch. Tonight the issue resurfaced and it won't start again.

On another note, the radiator seems to be losing water rapidly. There are no leaks i checked.Fan starts on auto. But water seems to disappear after short trips. I replaced water with Toyota coolant some months ago, thinking it will be the last time Ill have to worry about the radiator. Funny thing is i don't see coolant in either radiator or the reservoir bottle any more, just keep filling it up with water frequently now.

Lastly car seems to shake lightly/tremble while driving now.

Please help me as to what could be the issue and how to solve it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Kashif

In future please don't ignore your car radiator losing water, it should not be losing water daily, only overheating in car can cause many issues. Have you checked any leakage from radiator ?

Get the head gasket checked,it might be leaking because of this water penetrated into cylinders and causing hard or no starting.

Got the radiator serviced today, checked the leaks. Now i'll closely watch the water level whether it decreases or not.

Engine compression test is the best way to figure out this problem. However, following are the possible symptoms of head gasket failure,

1- Air bubbles appear in radiator on acceleration.
2- Spark plugs tip corroded because of water contamination.
3- Water throwing from exhaust pipe.
    4- Engine gets heated up.
5- Bubbles on oil level check dip stick.
6- In severe case brownish milky pest observe on the base of engine oil filler cap.
5- Rough engine idle speed and poor engine performance.
Never loose hope in life, every step gives u something.

If you do not have leaking radiator or any radiator hose, your head gasket is worn out. The common symptoms could be:
    - Engine oil in radiator
    - Coolant in engine oil. Check dipstick for milky colour and also the engine oil cap for same milky colour
    - Bubbles appear in radiator while engine is running. This results in pressure built up in radiator while radiator cap is on.
    - Repeated engine stalling
    - Repeated engine overheating
    - Loss of acceleration and engine power
    - Sparks plug get wet with the mixture of engine oil and coolant resulting in failed ignition.

But if you do not have all these symptoms but only got petrol in spark plugs, there might be some other issue as well like may be leaking injectors etc.

Thanks for the response. I have noticed tiny bubbles(one or two) on the oil dipstick and am suspecting the gasket is wornout.

One or few bubbles on dipstick are normal. But since you have mentioned frequent loss of coolant and petrol on spark plugs, then it is quite possible that gasket is blown. Get it replaced from a well reputed mechanic.
