Any update ?. I hope their is an alternative hatchback to Suzuki soon. Paksuzuki has no plans on replacing the outdated swift, cultus, mehran, bolan, ravi, or liana with newer models. Let's hope toyota brings some modern car in pk soon.

it's indus remember, they will most probably launch it at 1.4-1.5 mil point ... for that price would you rather go for hatch or sedan alternative? if they opt to launch to compete with swift (1.0-1.2 mil) than i think it will be instant hit here

^^ that means Paksuzuki will continue to maintain its monopoly in the small car segment and continue dumping retired/obsolete models in Pakistan . From what I heard is that Paksuzuki is not replacing the swift with next model, furthermore, Liana, Mehran, Cultus, Bolan, and Ravi will also continue to be in production with no replacement.

It's a shame that despite being the sixth largest country in the world in terms of population size (heading to become fourth largest by 2050 according to UN estimates) our auto industry is not progressing at all. Countries with even lower local production volumes than Pakistan have more options and at least manufacture cars with safety features. Asides from maybe civic (which is largely not localized) none of our mainstream passenger cars meet any safety standards whatsoever. Safety is largely ignored in cars with especially higher level of localization. Paksuzuki is the king of exploitation in the country.

Recently they, along with lobbying from other PAMA members are modifying the upcoming Auto Industry Development Policy heavily.

The big 3, especially Paksuzuki is lobbying for the following (as per news sources).

    1. Assemblers should not be forced to replace model after even 30 years (they are lobbying to get the proposed 10-15 year model replacement rule cancelled)
    2. Government should not adopt modern emission standards. Euro IV and Euro V. (because Paksuzuki does not want to transfer technology)
    3. Government should not give incentives to new assemblers to enter (so that their monopoly remains intact, they do not want volkswagen, chevrolet or any other assembler to enter because it will create competition for them)
    4. Government should not introduce safety testing or make airbags mandatory.
    5. Government should not punish them for not meeting localization targets which they committed to back in 1980s. (All auto assemblers failed localization targets, it took PakSuzuki over 20 years to achieve significant localization in Mehran)

I only hope there is some competition soon else industry will stagnate and only be able to produce significant parts for 1980s era Mehran which cannot be exported at all due as its technologically obsolete and meets no international safety standard.

so far manufacturers are lobbying to ban the import of used vehicles, launch of any new "models" are delayed by Japanese cartel in Pakistan till Sept 2016. The continuation of Honda City in older shape is the recent example.

After Iran nuclear deal and de-freezing of Iranian petro-dollar and assets across the world, liquid fuel prices are likely to float between US$ 48 ~ 55 per barrel for next few years i seriously doubt if Indus / Honda will be interested to launch any 1000 cc variant in Pakistan soon

if importers make lobby Manufacturers will bow down, instead they become a cartel and make money either way i.e blackmailing extortion from manufacturers while making money using malpractice in partnership with corrupt custom officers using loop hole in the system.
