Default Strange 'Tuk" sound from Vitz when brake is applied

I am facing a strange "TUK" sound problem (mostly noticeable) with my Vitz 1.0 (2006) when brake is applied at normal/slow/fast speed. This sound comes from the front part of the car and comes only when brake is applied

i have observed that this sound almost always comes (or noticeable) when car steering is 'slightly' turned left or right (90% of times whenever brake is applied in this mode) while it occasionally and sometimes frequently comes if car is moving straight.(50 -60 % of times whenever brake is applied in this mode)

Any ideas what this sound is ? . (I have taken my car 2-3 times to different mechanics to diagnose the problem and strangely this sound does not appear during the test drive...frustrating !)

Check the anti-rattle clips for the brake pads.

goto some suspension shop and get the front shock absorbers checked, such 'TUK' is from cracked front suspension insulators aka upper shock mounts

@capsat: If the tuk sound comes only when brake (even the very soft one) is applied, on the smooth roads too, then what does it have to do with shock thing?
    Can you please elaborate?

    Grease the caliper pins.

TOP shock mount ( insulator ) when get a fracture for any reason, momentum of vehicle when restrained create single TUK sound due to lateral play in the insulator. be it highway or non-paved track

this same **** is happening with me also. the car is corolla 2012 model only 27000 km driven. i have got the braked caliper checked and pins greased. but the sound nevea comes during the test drive. i will go again to get it checked. one thing is sure the sound comes from front right wheel and seems as if the brake pades are hitting the edges of caliper of some bolt is loose. get ur right side shocks checked and caliper pins, brake shoes. see if the locks on both ends caliper corners are ok. some times loose clips are make sounds as the dics pads move back and forth on applying brakes.

Get the pads checked if they're sitting snugly with the shims. Cheap brake pads are often not exactly the same size as oem ones and upon braking, smaller pads may slide to one side due to the circular motion of the brakes and collide with the caliper before starting to function properly which could cause the 'TAK' sound. Mechanics also often fit the shims improperly or do not fit them altogether which would cause the brake pad to stay loose in the caliper.

    Hi there,

I also have vitz 2005 new shape, I used to get this Tuk sound from the front part of the car on breaking and also while changing the gear from R to D and D to R.

Turns out that the axle was slipping or whatever you call it, changed the axle and the sound went away.
@vitz_2006 is the issue resolved now, please let us know what was the cause. Thanks

Tuk Sound is most probably due to worn out Boot of Suspension Rods, (With Axle a slim rod having two boots; one at upper terminal join and one at lower terminal joint). U can check it by lifting the car and see from under the car, Small boots with leaked Grease in musard colour. Toyota Ravi Motors guy showed it to me in my 2006 vitz (2011 Import). I think same is urs problem. Tuk sound is not due to brakes normally. Brakes have other sound issues.
Never underEstimate anyone. Might be a charade has a v8 in his heart.

put this question on Vitz Fan club and hope you will get the answers.
Usually the difference is not very big. Some seats are slightly different, some has back viper, some has little wide bonnet, some has 8 airbags, some has only 2, etc. thats why they give different name to each model.
    But engine is same 1KR-FE.

Here we have to choose among the models which are available here. Because no one cares to see these details before importing vitz.

This is the play in the main axle.
Either spend few thousands and have it change to new one. As per post 15 of this thread. am sure it will cost more than 10K.
Or you can keep it ignoring but surely not for the long time.
