Default Recommended oil for Vitz 2001 AT

Please guys, I need to change soon as it has been quite some time since the last change [which I didn't] and I believe the last change was of Shell or ZIC [The one in yellow] 10-40.

Mileage is around 130,000 and I think I also should change the gear oil

5W-30 oil of your trusted brand.
I personally use Shell Blue Box.

    Any idea about engine.
    its 1KR-FE or 2NZ-FE?

Any leakage or smoke? Oil reduction, Water reduction, etc. etc.

by the way, the ZIC yellow bottle is 20w-50

The one I had, said gasoline oil.
And the engine is 3 cylinder so I guess it's KR-FE. Engine looks to be perfectly fine to me. Car is in good condition.

If engine is good, then try 5w-30 for best fuel economy. You can change after 5K.
But first time, change it after 3~4K only.

1 KR-FE comes in 2nd generation Vitz onward.
In 2001 Vitz 1SZ-FE is the factory fitted engine. It is 4 cylinder

I guess there is an error in documents. the engine is SZ-FE, I saw the pics of the engine and I figured it out. Plus, there are four gears when the o/d is on so that must be an indication too.

    Mineral: Caltex Havoline 10w-30 SM

    Semi-synthetic: Shell HX-7 5w-30 SN

    Synthetic: Zic Ow 0w-30 SN

Take your pick; all of these are good for your car. There is no harm using a 30 weight oil in a 130k km driven car; that is mileage is nothing, especially if the car has been periodically maintained.

Going full synthetic would be a bad idea in summers, no?

why would it be ? dont listen to everything your mechanic says
he might have also suggested to make the cooling fans direct and remove the thermostat valve because "woh thandy elakon k liye hy"
Synthetic oils are better at resisting heat then mineral oils
Toyota has recommended 5w30 semi or fully synthetic oil for your car
