Regarding the brand, I suggest Toyota, don't play games with timing chains.

May I ask what syntoms are you getting to replace a timing chain, what is your car's milage?

From the agent in malta, take your VIN number with you, you can see it when you open the front passinger door, you probably have to replace it's tensioner

Just be 100% sure it's the timing belt before you buy parts etc. I have seen vitz with well over 200k miles on the odometer and never replaced it, it should serve the lifetime of the engine if serviced well (good oil and changing interval). The ticking noise could come from other parts of the engine eg. Head valves.

Timing chain in these toyota machinez doesn't worn out faster than their predecessors timing belts. If you are hearing a tinkiling sound or chain rattle on low revs then the problem is not the timing chain itself.
This could be a timing chain hydraulic tensioner.

This sound is common in those sz and kr series engines when you choose low viscosity oils.

Due to this reason on low revs the engine faces a low oil pressure problem hence speeding up the worn out of crank bearings first.
So to counter this problem I usually recommend my clients to shift up a little higher in viscosity.
What oil viscosity are you using.. it can help us to diagnose the problem very well.

    Time to shift up buddy
Find 5w-40 or 5w-50 and your problem would be resolved. Few more questions I had to ask.
1: on cold start for how many seconds you hear the rattle sound? Or it does not kick in on cold start?
2: is the rattle countinues after startup or it vanishes after some time?
3: or the rattle kicks in only when the engine is on full operating temperature?.

it rattles on start up and then vanishes... but some times when driving and the gearbox goes into higher ratio and the engine is on low revs it appears as well.... even when a/c is on it sometimes i can hear the noise

Shift up the viscosity of engine oil and your problem would be resolved. Its better to choose 5W-50 if available . Good luck with the troubleshooting.

I am told the same issue by mechanic either using low viscosity oil or issue with the time.but before that he'd need to inspect car engine himself that involves leaving car to workshop for few hours which I dont like i have been using zic 10-40, model is corolla 2003 saloon auto transmission problem started after i got the tappet and chamber leaks work done
