    Default VITZ A/T DETAILS

    Dear Members. I have owned a Vitz A/T Car. Its my ever first A/T Car. kindly brief its transmission details like as far i know D for normal, obviously R for reverse and N for Neutral. Rest of the transmission are for which purpose. kindly describe about O/D (over drive). Regards.

    d=all four gears works
    2=the transmission remains in first two gears and gives extra pick to the car
    l=only first gear is used and it is used for extreme power when you are climbing a rampage
    o/d off=in o/d off mode the car remains in first three gears and is used to get better pick up till the speed of 100-110

    P R N D 2 L is most likely your transmission.

    P=Park, locks the transmission with a parking pawl/pin and the front 2 wheels are locked. If the handbrake is down and gear in Park, your car wont go anywhere regardless of the in/decline.

    R=Reverse

    N=Neutral, all 4 wheels free and used primarily for towing purposes.

    D=All gears active, in a Vitz it means 4 gears.

    2=Transmission is restricted only to 2 gears and the gearbox will not allow the car to exceed 2nd gear. Used for towing and climbing/going down inclines. Max speed around 30-45km/h

    L=Transmission is restricted only to 1 gear and the gearbox will not allow the car to exceed 1st gear. Used when maximum engine power is needed. Max speed around 20-30km/h

    od is overdrive and gives an extra gear for efficiency & speed I believe.

    In addition:
    2 & L are for more powerful engine braking. Thats what the owners' manual says.
    O/D is the overdrive gear, equivalent to 4th gear.

    yaar O/D juzt enable 4th gear simple if o/d off and ur transmission is in D it will go till 3rd gear not move to 4th unless u ON O/D..

    Vitz looks like a RAT.

    so in other words if you are on a highway itz better to turn on O/D so that you get best mileage and you dont burn up anything in your with O/d Off since 3rd will not be sufficient for the long rountine!

    isnt that the case guys?

    O/D should be "ON" most of the time for better mileage as it engage all the four gears, whether its City or HighWay driving.

    o/d should be done only when you need extra pick not in normal drive and will result in low fuel average!
