I have a 2005 Vitz and I get 18 km/liter on the highway and 15 on the average (mixture of city and highway driving). This mileage is for super.

If I use HOBC Blend, it gets slightly better but never above 20 km/l as claimed in the specification or advertisements about vitz (newer models). I have not experimented much with the HOBC Blend ratios.

It is a 3-cylinder and 1000 cc Vitz. You will only get four cylinder in 1300 and 1500 cc vitz of 2005 and newer models. Old shape Vitz (2004 and older) had four cylinders in 1000 cc.

S and L of auto transmission have been explained many times on the forum, In the auto transmission of vitz 2005, D is for normal driving. The car will go till the top gear (probably 3rd). In S, you will not reach the top gear and transmission will only change in gear one and two. Whereas in L, the transmission will not go beyond first gear. S and L will normally be used in hilly area driving.

Driving style is the main factor to measure the FE. If u drive with light foot, get good average. I drive Vitz 2006, 3 cyl, 1.0 L petrol only. In city I get 15/L. I just made a trip Lhr-Isl, got 21/L on motorway. I drove between 95 and 100km. I curbed my desire to accelerate on passing vehicles.

Just remember when u drive beyond 100km, the air drag is too much; this effect yr average drastically. Cheers
    Enjoy the new ride.

Hey guys, I recently bought a '06 Toyota Vitz 1.0L (new shape), freshly arrived from Japan with very low miles done.

In the first few days I noticed some sound of knocking/pinging at low speed driving. At that time I was filling it with Regular/Super petrol. Then I experimented with a full tank of Hi-Octane (HOBC) and sure enough the knocking went away!

To confirm this occurence I consulted some expert auto technicians and they all said that the knocking happens due to the fact that our regular petrol has a much lower octane rating as compared to Japanese regular petrol, which these cars are intended to consume. So our regular fuel (that has a comparitively poor octane rating) causes the knocking. Hi-octane solves the problem.

Knocking is extremely bad for the engine in the long run as it slowly damages the rings, pistons and other critical engine components.

Now I have started mixing the Regular petrol with HOBC in a ratio of 40:60 (40% Regular / 60% HOBC), and there is no knocking at any speed or any RPM. The fuel economy has improved and the acceleration is better. Also, it is obviously cheaper on the pocket to mix both fuels rather than just using pure HOBC.

Hope this tip proves helpful to any Vitz users who are experiencing the knocking problem.

@fsz Regular Pertol has the octane number which it claims. Japnese domestic model cars are made to run on a higher grade (octane) fuel.
So the issue is with the car engine specs and not the fuel.
The solution as you have already figured out is easy i.e. to run on Hi octane.
If you walk away from your car and don't look back, you have bought the wrong car.

12 to 13? I think a civic 1.6 does better than that. Vitz should do no less than 15 in the city.

I think experts of vitz and civic would be in a better place to correct me and throw light on this matter.

So, anyone with a Vitz 1.0L model 2005 onwards (new shape) ever heard the sound of knocking while driving with Regular (Super) petrol?

my last trip from sialkot to chakwal on vitz 05 1.0L (3-cylinder) gave me an average of 19.6-20 km/ltr with super (no hi octane mix), speed 90-100 km. and from chakwal to kallar kahar onwards, it was around 18.5-19 km/ltr

kia baat hay vitz ke (kia kia baat hai? :d )

    @ fzs
i have just driven 1500-kms but all on super regular (from total gas station) and no abnormal sound observed so far, although on my last visit to toyota indus motor skt (for general check of car) i saw one vitz with same problem and their technicians also suggesting me not to put regular super in my vitz, according to them yeh kachra hota hay aur japanese cars espacially vitz mind this kachra alot and if hi-octane not available else try to find some good pump station, a good reputed in ur area

It gives around 14-15 km/L in the city and around 17-18 km/L on the highway ONLY if you keep it's MAF Sensor/IAC Sensor, Throttle Body, Air Filter cleaned and replaced on time. Perodic Oil Changes and Oil filer changes are necessary if you want your vehicle to give you a good overall average.

I have a vitz 05 - cyl and I m getting 15-16 / lit, once in a month I get it topped up with H-Oct and its doing good, however, it is true that with regular fuel it does give the knocking but u can adjust it immediately by taking you feet off the accelerator and re accelerate and it is not good to have knocking so get in hi-octane regularly. There is not doubt that it is an excellent machine when provided good care and regular maintenance.
