    Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own!     that design is called "patina" and will NOT be appreciated in PK even though it is the current trend for ALL hotroders.

    those engine jobs are INSANE!! woudl love to do that to one of my VW's (i'm sure us all would like to do it infact)

    my suggestion is to have it done near you, if you can make a trip to ISB every weekend then get it done here, otherwie keep it in lahore, i'm sure there are "ustaads" there too.

    Weekend trips is not a biggie. Trust me the vw guys dont even have parts. They simply tell you Pindi plus once trashed a car because of the local lahori ustaad's

    I agree with Storm. In my opinion more than half the fun is seeing it being done in front of your eyes.

    And to start with it does not need much bodywork.

    Please post a list of parts you need. Maybe members can help.

    Please post a new dedicated thread as soon as Lahori soil is blessed...

    Okay Ill make the list as simple as possible...

    Engine bits....we can get Im quite sure. From memory some things:

    1. A pristine 'doghouse' style fan shroud. Without any denting work done. Not necessary but if you get one not bad.

    2. Rear pulley shield.

    3. One engine mounting bottom stud (Ill try to source one as the original was mangled a bit).

    4. Engine overhaul parts.....

    a. Set of 1600cc piston/cylinder set.

    b. Set of genuine valves and valve guides.

    c. A genuine exhaust.

    d. Engine rebuild gasket set.

    e. New oil pump (old may be reusable)

    f. New fuel pump (old may be reusable)

    g. New Bosch coil.

    h. New points, condensor and rotor.

    i. New spark plugs and genuine wires.

    j. Main and big end bearings...to be bought after the engine is dismantled.

    5. Post 73 alternator (not essential but a good upgrade)

    6. New clutch.

    7. New pressure plate (the current one may be good)

    8. New throwout bearing.

    Will update with time.......

    In the non-mechanical department, you'll need to get hold of some front seats for it. Shouldn't be a problem if you are not worried about originality though.
    Just a thought, bench seats out of an old American car can be used.

    Also the glass will have to made which shouldn't be difficult either as there are hardly any curves to deal with, I think.

    The actual parts for the overhaul would most probably be in stock. If not they would be available sooner than later.

    The things like engine shields and alternators is what requires luck and poking around junkyards etc....its all how luck turns out.....

    Ill update the list on your future dedicated topic.

    The seat frame's are there so it shouldnt be a problem and glass will be a little issue.

    Anyway. Lets see how we progress. Now the priority is to get to Lahore/Isb etc and then start the bodywork. We can look for the parts simultaneously.

    what i think should be done is prep the car for the new engine. Once the body is ready for the engine over haul the engine put it in the car and start the car. Drive it and once satisfied send it for paint.

    Thats a plan....

    Anyway the first thing would be the bodywork. Get that started and simultaneously look for bodyparts.

    I dont thing there would be any holdups in the engine rebuild.

    Yes the incomplete vehicle in primer can be driven around with the new engine and refreshed mechanicals (brakes etc) and electrics.

    You didnt get my point. Throw the diesel engine out rebuild that area that was messed with to swap the diesel engine. Fix the entire bay and over haul the engine. Once the engine and mechanicals are done throw the enigne in the car and start using it till satisfied.
    Once satisfied then do the body work completely
