Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

Good to know the planned TLC.....

I would second Romano on the body off thingy. And yes Babar is the best guy around for such a job. I would strongly suggest you dont go for any other denters as down the line you would eventually come to the conclusion that VWs are not meant to be dented by most ordinary denters......at least not for major work.

Its your personal taste but I would keep it the original color shade if it was my car, AND if theres factory paint on the dash etc I would have kept it untouched. Its a nice time warp feel.

Colors.....you can go for any shade of metallic, candy, metal flake......but what would forever remain in fashion would be the Original factory shades. You can check out thesamba.com for color charts and paint codes.

You can go for custom upholstery in some tasteful colors if you like.

If you just have to change the color, give first priority to the factory shades correct for your cars year. You would love to see the choices available.....

    http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/paintcodestype1.php

My 59 ragtop was originally Kalahari beige. Im more inclined on Mignonette once the car comes thru to the paint stage. The latter is a period correct color shade.

@ storm.. i thot babar would be suggested...ill pay him a visit soon..

    @ fadee

yea i remember u... i was busy wth projects man...

i luv the fact that the car is in original paint on the inside..and thats the reason i dont wanna touch it..but its kinda dull for my choice...besides the exterior is all repainted so i thot a color change on the outside wont be doing any damage to the cars "value"

i plan not to change the original interior paint so as to be able to revert to teh grey later wen i want to...the problem is finding a nice color for the outside that can work with the grey...

if i cant find anything reasonable, ill end up in grey...but im just exploring possibilities rite nw..

    @ Naveedrizvi and Howzat

I came very close to buying a 1302 bug. It was supposed to be a 'joint purchase' along with a friend as the asking price is quite high. And I am broke!

The owner is eccentric and had the bug resprayed and freshened up but ended up not using it. He didnt want to sell it but one of my denters convinced him so he talked a bit. Sorry I dont have any pics.

It has a 1600 Dualport but nofront disc brakes. Dont think its on the market now though.

WOW! yes its a bit granny-ish but hey ! grannies CAN be cool too!

If the pics do justice, its L 70 F Chinchilla?? Yours is a 69 standard right???

I can see that you have original door cards too! Cool.

Some things on your wishlist....provided the pic is recent:

-Pedal rubber covers (Original Brazilian were available at Karachi)
    -Headlight switch plus knob
    -Centre defroster dash vent.

    Do keep that dash waxed!!

@ all My 59 ragtop project is going to take off soon with renewed vigor..... My current denter has been layin eggs and has not touched that car for ages....so now it has to go to Basit, Karachi's specialist VW denter. Basit has given me an astonomical estimate for a body off and reversing of all the mods done by the last owner but Ive come to the conclusion that I would have to swallow the bitter pill once. He had an accident (discussed here already) after which he has been out of action plus he is shifting his garage soon. I plan to hand him the car the day he shifts to his new place.

    Just remembered.......

A cousin of mine is selling his daily driver 69 bug. It is complete and solid but needs body work in the form of accident damage (not a major accident for the VW body!)

Its a daily driver with 100% reliability. Taxes clear, title in name of owner. Btw he is the second owner.

Ideal car for someone who wants a daily driver to rebuild at an upcoming date.

    Asking price is 50K.

The door panels/cards can be given new life by changing the backing hardboard. An expert upholstery walla can do a good job. Try "feeding" the leatherette some good quality reviver. Should do wonders in making it supple and lustrous.
