Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

Are u thinking of buying another bug
A car for the people, an affordable Volkswagen, would bring great joy to the masses and the problems of building such a car must be faced with courage.

    @ msm

Dont worry, youd learn a lot owning a Vdub!

The red 65 I mentioned was rebuilt by Basit but mush of it is bastardised (excuse the term but it refers to somethings that has a hotchpotch mixture of different yearmodel parts). I think you posted its pic somewhere here. Have seen the car in person too.

I have not seen the 65 converted to 74. Anyway, its a bad idea to buy a converted car in our opinion, people have a right to differ.

No model is good or bad, its your personal choice and what is available in best condition. In my own opinion based on observation, anything pre 66 ie 66 year model included has better build quality.

As far as popularity goes, pre 67 VWs are considered a different, far more desible breed abroad. Here post 68 are considered better with the 74 the best. Thats why you see so many wannabe 74s.

Bottom line is...its your personal choice....

    @ naveed

Msm was thinking of selling the 74 and gettin another one.....right msm???

I think your car is pretty decent and you should hang onto it until and unless you are getting a mint example. if you buy any other car, it would have its own set of issues which you will need to sort out afresh.

Who was this mechanic??? Near liaqatabad??? Was he a VW guy or a general mech????

Again that was his own personal view......you should have asked him to define 'mazaydar'.......

glad to hear that your car is back on the road. as for mechanics telling you that VW's are not "mazaydar". please ask him to show you a better car in that price range .... my 1303 is nowhere near where i want it to be but i can assure you that NO local car can match it in terms of ride quality.

Vw beetles are great cars overall as long as you don't HAVE to have an AC.

Rumors of a VW powered, entry level Porsche roadster in the near future are circulating the net...
"The rough, hard idle swells up and out from under the car, ricochets off other cars, and rams into the ears of the driver, the spectators. You think twice about a 383 Road Runner, but a hemi only once -- and let it pass."

Yes...post '63 bugs came with sliding steel sunroofs like on my car. However, the 'steel' is only really a cover and the actual sunroof underneath it is a hard polycarbonate-type material (the black part).

Previous owner 'misplaced' the steel cover, so I'm left with this - although it's leakproof in the rain.

    @romano
this is the car i saw at the golden dragon parking lot (i called you). i think aleem is right, the inside of the steel roof is poly propelyne, polycarbonate or PVC. however if i'm not mistaken there is quite a gap when the steel is missing aroudn the edges so there is a risk of water entering the car if the channels are not up to spec as well as the felt.
