Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

U may be right .... but had to do something to make the car mobile.... just FYI the guy is also one of the VW specialists in KHI....( i.e. he can work on only VWs; how good he is at it is another thing:p )

and on top of that the brakes are working LIKE disc brakes

@Razak - join the club, I'm looking for a pre 65 VW too (bug, bus, ghia anything) and I can tell you that while the cars are certainly out there, they are getting rarer by the day. We can't afford to be picky or choosy.

However, at least I can say that after meeting up with Romano and Storm today I have confidence in my ability to get work done here in ISB and source parts once I get my hands on the right car.

I heard you work in Afghanistan? My father visited Kabul in 2001-2 and took a pic of what appeared to be a restorable 62/63 ragtop bug standing abandoned in Kabul. The guy wanted $100 for it cash on the spot.

What's the VW scene in Afghanistan these days? I know VWs were also popular there back in the heyday. What about bringing one back across the border, if we locate a 50s Bug or a ragtop or something rare?

    Default 65 Bug's Steering Wheel

Am so pissed off. We rescued the speedo, glasses, steering wheel and column, a front bumper, and some other little bits. Such a pity. @ Aleem, if you had called me just a bit earlier I would have given you a plan to save it.. but I guess we always think the grass on the other side is greener. Wake up guys! That split window with sunroof may or may not be 'out' there, but meanwhile, lots of classic Beetles are going to the wreckers. Time is not on our side.
    @ Dear Romano
Plz parcel me the steering wheel of the 65 Bug i can hang it into my bedroom for the good memories of the beauty bug :-) or or install it into my expected owned bug

As for the shocks, have a suspensino pro check them AND check to see if they are the correct size & spec for your application.

as you are getting it opened you must have the mechanic check the bushes and your bump stops as now would be a great time to replace them.

good luck and post some pics.
that's my plan.....i really think the shocks are busted, although the mech said he had taken them out and checked them and they're fine but even pushing the car up/down is very stiff with no bounce...

incase they have to be replaced, what's the recommended size / brand / type?

I spoke to the owner some months ago and he was asking 20k, not a lot since the car will yield doors, window glass, speedo, steering, engine and gearbox, plus the complete frame of course. all wheels on it.
Bug have an engine or not ? :-) i mean it is in running condition or not? Plz post some pics so VW lovers can get some courage to own this bug.

in an ideal world i'd suggest gas shocks as that is probably the ONLY universal upgrade which every beetle can benefit from. KYB (Gas-a-just & GR2) and GAZ make excellent shock for the type 1 but finding them bere is next to impossible. also there isn't one universal size for all beetles so you'll have to find out which size your car needs depending on the model, desired ride height etc.

i'm using Boge shocks (sometimes available in PK) in my 1303 at the moment,.. not bad but not the best either. but beggers can't be coosers i guess, so they'll ahev to do till it's time to change them.

steering is in dire need of a rescue at the moment and my thing needs a VW steering setup so i'll be repairing the steering and fitting the entire column to my thing for now. I have no intention of hanging on to the 65 steering though (i only need the column), just long enough to get my hands on a replacement 74+ steering for my thing, then it'll be up for sale.

    will keep you informed.

sharjemad, of course its not running! hello, I dont think you have been paying attention to the thread. I clearly pointed out this car is ONLY useful insofar that its a usable frame. You will have to find a body to put on it, the current green one is a MESS.
