    Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

    Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

    Aleem, you can forget 6v here. thats a sure road to doom and disappointment. All we have are 6v wiper motors and some dipper/flasher units, no more. No bulbs, starter motors or batteries!

    @all
    will start the tech thread tomorrow, will require alot of input (and corrections) from asad, sami_voodoo, Romano, Nasir, Xulfiqar etc..

    @naveed
    WHOA!! that is a serious overhaul! Now may be a good time to inspect the mounts, engine rubber seals, nose cone mount etc. Let us know how she drives after the overhaul.

    Default Couple more spottings around ISB...

    • Tired and used-looking 66 1300, spotted near Rawal Lake View Park...
    • A bizzare Desi rendition of a 67 Karmann Cabriolet, aka the Kamran Cabrio. Someone was desperate for a convertible bug, and ended up with his. A waste of a good 67.

    Default 1966 Beetle for sale in Islamabad - fixer-upper?

    Folks,

    Here's a car recently discovered by Romano and partly investigated by me, which is for sale. Its a 66 (badge says 1300)

    Looks to be in reasonable condition, and deserves some TLC. Has potential. In summary:

    - Average(ish) bodywise
    - Engine appears to be a late 1300, but I was in a rush
    - Euro rear bumper
    - Horrible vintage Jap front seats (rear og)
    - 72+ rear lights make it look wierd
    - 68+ wheels, hence odd stance
    - Dash slightly butchered, with a few extra switches
    - No fuel gauge on dash...
    - Been standing for over a year now.
    - Have asked owner's employee to find out about status of tax/tokens

    Owner is desparate to sell. Asking 60k , but room for considerable negotiation. I might consider it myself. Take it before it's too late

    Standing in F-6/1, St. 32.

    Yup, later day Type R it is.

    FYI, most of us here love all kinds of VWs, not just air-cooled classics, but it really boils down to what's available locally. As you've probably seen, the overwhelming majority of VWs in PK are survivors from the 60s and 70s. In addition to being very popular imports, VWs are the best surviving of all pre-Japanese era cars in the country. E.g...how often do you see say, a 1966 Ford Cortina or Opel on the road? How often do you see a 1966 Beetle? Often twice a day or more driving around town.

    German cars in general were victims of Z.A. Bhutto's well-intended but misguided industrial and nationalization policies, and the beginning of the end of decent cars for the masses. The era of tin boxes and misc Jap crap slowly crept in after early 70s.

    Volkswagen Pakistan officially closed down ops here in 1974. A small number of late air cooled VWs were brought in, followed by even smaller numbers of privately-imported early water-cooled (Golf Mk Is, early Passats etc).

    Golfs are a rare sight out here, though you do see them once in a blue moon.

    Saw the lone surviving K70 again today. Would have killed for a camera. Its got a Govt QA plate, so Quetta registration somehow. Its ultra ultra rare, and considering only 170,000 were made, amazing one still survives here! its a faded gold/beige colour. Has anyone else ever spotted it??

    If the Federal Govt ever decides to auction it off, you'll see yours truly standing in line with my ticket, while the bearded masses (no pun intended) scratch their heads with confusion as to just what hell it is.

    The K70 is one rare beast. I'm amazed the rust hasn't eaten it. Those things were rust magnets.

    car looks complete and i think that if someone paid 50k for it and fixed her up a little, she'd make a great daily runner.

    the 66 looks gorgeous!! looks liek a daily driver,.. that cabrio 67 is a freaking disaster though!!!! why ruin a 67??? also cabrios alreaday have a cooling problem,.. now with that hideous SJ410 inspired roof i can assure you a vaccum is being formed near the engine vents and that is causing this car to run hotter than usual.

    Also @ Karachi walas...

    Whenever it is you finally decide to get together, and whatever you do...just make sure you get some of those rarities you have hiding in various alley ways and back street treasures to attend.

    If possible, do try and get as many Early big window/Oval/Ragtop/Split Bus/Ghia/Type 3/the sole known split window bug to attend...THAT would be something.

    You got more VWs than anywhere else in the country - I'm dying to see some interesting pics!
