Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

    @i_fear_that_i_may_lose_u:

Brother, apologies accepted.....I agree that everyone has different choice and you have the right. But i dont think its such a good idea to go to "Beetle Fan Club" and start talking bad about Beetle, you know...It doesnt add up.

Any ways...I like Honda's..Actually my other car is a Honda Civic but i think beetle is better than my honda for a lot of reasons. Beetle will give you MAZAA, depends how do you define mazaa

By the way try watching a video i posted earlier today Beetle Smokes Ferrari than we will talk further.

    Till then Peace out...Salman

the word "foxy" is what our people call the beetle/kafer becausse thay couldn't pronounce "volkswagen". In the rest of the world they call it the beetle or the type 1

    Dear All

Can u guide me in finding and buying beetle. I would also like to ask following questions in this regard.

    1. Which model is the best. Best in terms of speed, price, durability and modifications.

    2. Where would i got that model. Can u tell me some seller in lahore.

    3. How much does it cost. My budget is Rs. 20,000 or what is ur estimated price; i am new in this field and do not know much about market and its trends plz be realistic. how much more i have to spend on restorations and alterations like (engine overhauling, body restoration, paint, tyres dashboards, air conditioning, interior, exterior, electrical works)

    4. Some people has changed the dashboards. The changed dashboards looks awsome. Where did i got those dashboards.

    5. Can you people name someone in lahore who is expert in beetle restoration.

    6. I have heard that beetle got overheating problem and after sometime requires complete hault. Is this problem exists then what is the solution and what happened next if i use A/C for beetle.

    7. Does beetle support Air conditioning, if yes from where we can have it how much does it costs and in which model there is factory fitted air blower. Mostly we have to first arrange the blower and then got the A/C. Who would the A/C effect the overheating and mileage.

    8. What would be the expected mileage before and after engine restoration per litre. What would be the expected mileage with A/C and without A/C on both CNG and petrol.

    9. What are the prospects of converting it onto diesel or having some other engine.

    10. What would be the attainable top speed in terms of Km/p. 140Km/p would be enough.

    11. What things should be kept in mind while buying the beetle.

Everyone is welcomed to guide me. I want that the above conditions should be fulfilled.

    1. 1303S

    2. There are very few about and they are hard to find

    3. 1303S's can exchange hands for around 1 lack

    4. Dashpads can be fitted to almost any beetle, but dashboards only came in the 1302 & 1303

    5. Sorry i cant help on that one

    6. A good engine will never give you problems, infact the aircooled design is less prone to breakdows in hot climates if built right

    7. No Air conditioning

    8. I've never checked my milage but i'd guess around 8

    9. Please don't do that to a classic. Buy an already converted (ruined) one with a charade engine)

    10. Depends on model, engine & gearbox

    11. If you plan on EVER making it worth keeping you'll have to spend at least 90,000 on a full rebuild.

    Volkswagen Beetle
The Volkswagen Type 1, more commonly known as the Beetle, Vocho, Bug or Käfer (German), is a compact car, produced by Volkswagen from 1938 until 2003. Although the names "Beetle" and "Bug" were quickly adopted by the public, it was not until August of 1967 that VW began using the name in marketing materials. It had previously been known only as either the "Type I" or as the 1200 (twelve-hundred), 1300 (thirteen-hundred) or 1500 (fifteen-hundred), which had been the names under which the vehicle was marketed in Europe prior to 1967; the numbers denoted the vehicle's engine size in cubic centimetres. In 1998, many years after the original model had been dropped from the lineup in most of the world (it continued in Mexico and a handful of other countries until 2003) VW introduced a "New Beetle", bearing a similar appearance to the original but having little else in common.

After a long deep slumber off pakwheels I rise again!!

    @haywirehiatus:

Unfortunately there are no sources in Karachi offering you this kind of dash pad. Though it is available overseas as a kit easy to instal as its basically a stick on to the original metal dash.

Some do pop up at shershah once a while when a nice bug (american spec) is butchered by the scrappers. But then they are in rough shape.

Your best bet is to self import one from UK or US.

There are however a couple of expert dash rebuilders in Karachi. If u have the time patience n money u can give them a visit, show them the pics and see if they can come up with something. Making a close copy is after all possible in my opinion.

    Regards.
If there are no Beetles in heaven, Im not going!!!
