Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

@strom, sorry folks it was a day trip to Islamabad. I'm back to my base station. Inshallah will try to meet up on my next trip.

@storm, romano, where do i get a 1500cc or 1600cc engine? availability in Karachi is for Rs. 15,000/- to 20,000/- on as is where is basis.(adding few bucks one could get a whole car and salvage the enigne) Whats the engine rebuild cost on original specs?

Well...I'll be damned if I weren't the first one to jump the queue to get my hands on a 1500 Beetle for a few thousand; I've been trying for the last umpteen years to find a genuine 66-67 1500 Beetle without any luck.

If you come across one (and aren't minded to tell me ) buy it and restore it whole. Don't even think about cutting it up!

I would imagine that the vast majority of Beetles currently being butchered are either late 1200 standard models and 1300s. Quite rare for a 1500 or 1302S/1303S (1600) to be cut up north in my books.

Also...might want to try finding an "AR" series 1300 engine (twin port). Had one in my 66 sunroof, best of the 1300 series.

    Default WIP at basit denter....

@Aleem1, people who sell their VW for butchering don't know what they are doing. To them these are mere old cars not worth keeping, can't blame them. Anyway, now i know about your quest, i'll forward to you any complete car that comes my way for sale.

Today, had a panchait (together with arbitrators)with basit denter and he promised to complete work & deliver my beetle by the 20th April or else I get his green VW.

yup, only applies to the 1303s. sadly there are 2 style of "pinch" models as well and i got a new replacement for my car only to find it is the short kind (i needed the long kind),.. came with 2 brand new VW keys as well,.. was hoping to get the keys to work on all my locks and ignition as well,.. would have looked very cool.

    Default Braking power....

" Another thing you (and I) can do to improve brakes is to fit Type 3 rear drums. These have wider shoes, but apparently they fit straight on. But I believe it can make a big difference, and the performance boys usually go this route." from the Internet.

Any identification guidance about a Type 3 VW?

late model beetles as well as 1302s and 1303s had wider-than-stock rear drums as well,.. this should make the search easier.

    @haywirehiatus
go to basit denter only if you can invest your time. He is good at work but pretty lazy or rather a dodger. I've agreed complete body restoration for Rs. 25,000/- for my 68 bettle and although far behind schedule he is doing a pretty good job till date.

    take care

nope 25k for denting only, my car had loads of ground filler as you can see from the pics posted. So the idea was to scrap the whole body, have ithe body work complete. Then sand blast the parts to bare metal and going about the coloring business.i guess i'll be changing the color too, yet to decide about it.

Unfortunately lots of things went missing from Basit denter's place including the engine (towed away & impounded by CCDGK). so the process is slow at the moment. If you visit basit workshop , my beetle is inside, the one in the front with boday panels scrapped off and no floor.
