Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

it's possible that the balljoints, steering shock, sttering coupling or some other part is/are worn.

as long as the shock is the correct length and has sufficient travel you can fit any.

steering shock is new. coupling is in order. i'll get the balljoints checked. i think the fault lies in the steering box itself?

you can tighten the box,.. but only a few times. eventually you'll have to buy a NEW steering box.

@ Storm...speaking of steering boxes, I need one badly for my 61 (early worm/roller type). Mine's completely shot to the dogs after 50 years of daily abuse on our roads.

I really want to fit either an NOS box (impossible to find here, I'm sure), or a reconditioned original unit. Is there any other locally-available solution, without fitting a used tired out 'kabari' box, as there really won't be a whole world of difference using one of them.

    @Storm

Well, the ex-owner of the vehicle used to restore beetles/things way back in 1996. I got this beetle from him as the way it was and still in the same condition as it is now.

Spending money on this is not what i would do to make more mess of this beetle. So, I'm still keeping it the way it is.

Sunroof really sucks!!!the people here in khi rap*d beetles more than mine.

So, in short and in a way, it is still saved.

the fact that she's on the road is more than enough. i've seen so many VW's dying a sad death lately. i'd suggest that you concentrate on your KG as it is a VERY rare car in PK and keep the 1303 as a "runner".

how do u make a bug more stable at high speeds? i think the major concern is the lift, plus there is little weight at the front and it makes the front tires lose grip and response. does the front apron help? is it possible to get good quality dropped spindles made locally?

    hey guys,

just a thought and a quick question.

If fiberglass parts like fenders and bonnet are available for beetles, how would the restorers / enthusiasts and regular bug owners feel about it?

I see more pros than cons, as in:
no issue of beating the metal in shape and applying filler etc.
    no future rusting problems
no variations on the 'proper' shape due to different skill levels of denters
    simple bolt-on fitting

Some people might want to stick to the 'authentic' metal fenders but then again, patching them up and repeated beating also abuses the originals...

i've met the owners of 3 of them (silver coupe, purple/green coupe and red cabrio), romano knows the owner of the other green coupe but i've not met him yet.

new suspension bushes, correct ride height etc will make a world of difference. however since these cars were not designed for high speeds and weren't designed using wind tunnels they tend to generate some front-end lift at high speeds. This issue can be overcome with either a front spoiler/splitter, or by adding a sandbag in the front.

however do try and keep the spare tyre in the front as it makes quite some difference to the front ride height.

trying to get good quality dropped spindles made in PK is going to be next to impossible since most people will use cheap materials and be very inaccurate with their measurements,... and hte ones who WILL be able to make them will charge an absolute fortune for them (making it cheaper to buy them from abroad).

i'm in favour of the fibre ones as i'm sick and tired of the useless metal "rebuilds" available in PK. nothing fits, the headlights are always facing the wrong way and the shape is always a little off.

if good quality 1303 front fenders are ever made, i'll take a set,.. cash waiting.

I believe moulds for the fenders may be available with Raazi Nayyer in PECHS? I do remember seeing fibreglass bumpers on sale in Karachi years ago. Probably made at the same place?
