Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

@ Ahh...the silver ragtop - actually a 63, checked with Panni Sr. himself.

Despite my relative insanity when it comes to old VWs of that vintage, and particularly ragtops, I nonetheless felt that a guide price of "8-10 lacs" was rather steep for what amounts to a total basket-case.

I therefore opted to leave that one well alone, until such time as the owner either:

    (i) is changed; or
(ii) regains his senses, through connecting with the real world.

At the same time, I'm patiently waiting for the owner of a certain, ugly, thoroughly modified and abused 58 LHD Ragtop residing in Pindi to budge - even an inch. It's a painfully slow process - which, like fine wine or a career in the law, takes many, many years to yield results.

    @ Storm

Is there a 31 pict carb as well. How would you rate it.

    @ Farrukh

Whats the status of your 74. Sold or awaiting.
A car for the people, an affordable Volkswagen, would bring great joy to the masses and the problems of building such a car must be faced with courage.

there is indeed a 31, little to no difference in the 30 and 31.

infact the 34 is just barely enough of a carb for a dual port 1600,... the minimum should be a single 40.

ahem...might be a GOOD idea to buy the best quality petrol pipe, some jubilee clamps, fuses of the correct amperage, AND a Gloria brand fire extinguisher.... all good at preventing fire in the first place, and if that should happen, the last item will snuff it out ASAP

i'm currently building a 68 1500 delux for someone and it'll hopefully give you some ideas for what you might want to do one day.

if you intend on building a performance VW,.. start by upgrading EVERYTHING under the skin and then add power. good luck and please get some jubilee clips for your fule line,... as it is the rubber hose could come off the filter and leak petrol all over yoru engine.
Thanks Sameer bhai, and I'll be very much interested that '68 Delux project you talked about. Please do share some info and photos with us.

Coming to my Bug, as I have a plan to make it Performance VW, means I'd have to upgrade almost everything in it, I won't be going for any JDM engine swaps rather I would like a strong bolt-on setup. For that I have to discuss alot of things, which I will keep posting through the time. Meanwhile I'm planning for a temporary paint for my Bug so it can stay away from rust till my final project starts.

And o yes, thanks for reminding me for Jubilee Clips, they're lying around somewhere will put them in a day or two!

Went through the ad, although looks fine but I'll call the owner later today or tomorrow morning. As I say "Seeing in actual is believing!" and most probably I will check it within 2, 3 days depending on my schedule. But worry not, I'll contact you after going through it.

Pay my regards to Asad, its been a long time.

Farrukh, inshallah in a day or two to get it mounted, i'll be visiting their city office Shams Chambers, Sharah-e-Liaquat near Chambers of Commerce.

Volkswagen Club of Pakistan VWCOP -81255

The VW logo is one of the most recognizable logos, but the history behind the design is even more intriguing.

    History
The Volkswagen logo at least the first design in 1938 was the result of an office competition. The story goes that Franz Xavier Reimspiess, an employee of Porsche, during an office logo design competition created the logo. He was given a one time payment of 100 Reichsmarks (about $400). Mr. Reimspiess was also the engineer who perfected the engine for the Beetle in the 1930’s.

Nikolai Borg, states he was really the designer and was invited to draw the car logo by Dr. Ing. Fritz Todt, the general inspector for roads during WWII. However, Mr. Borg was not able to prove to the court he was the original creator of the logo.

Volkswagen translates to “Peoples Car” in German, and in 1938 Germany when the company was being developed, the Nazi party was in power, Many people have forgotten that “Nazi” is a syncopation for “National Socialist German Workers Party.” So the combination of the party symbol and the new car company would have been very powerful.

In fact, the first logo for Volkswagen was the swastika. It was know as the “swastika hubcap” car. The company later changed the logo to what appears to be the swastika in motion with V and W in the center. This happened when Adolf Hitler abruptily changed the name of the car to “KdF Wagen,” which stood for “Kraft durch Freude” or “Strength through Joy”

The next logo change came before WWII. The Volkswagen project was part of the “Nazi Kraft durch Freude” propaganda scheme run by the “Deutsche Arbeitsfront” (DAF). The logo for the DAF was a swastika surrounded by a cog or gear. The new VW logo replaced the swastika with the V over the W in the center.

After WWII Britain had the cog changed to a circle and that design was filed for copyright in 1948.

VW had the logo updated again in 2000 to the current 3D version.
