    Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

    Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

    no i dont think it is the same one. I have been told that this car was parked in a garage for many years and the owner an old man of about 70 is restoring it. Havent met the owner though.. and the car is I think green in colour.
    A car for the people, an affordable Volkswagen, would bring great joy to the masses and the problems of building such a car must be faced with courage.

    I see, thats an interesting piece of information that we have a potent 70yrs old VW Enthusiast who owns a 59/60 RAGTOP and who had the resolve to RESTORE it too!!!

    Talked with Dr. Asad about it today and he thought it would be the blue RAGTOP, the one that he knows from some where. But a GREEN one is a new interesting little development.

    Volkswagen Club of Pakistan VWCOP -204541

    Another God forsaken 1965/66 that has been left to rot. when I yesterday located the car and met the owner (US returned young engineer) to negotiate saving it, he told me the rotten story of it being a belonging to her mother thus he couldn't sell it off (and to leave it to rot to dust as the car is left in the open).

    Upon me insisting, he was pretty convenient to shun me off by saying that it was in his plans to restore it soon by himself.

    I wonder how many such stories would be told to us while these beauties die their slow death just because their owners were too stubborn to let anyone see restoring/saving these vintages, which they themselves couldn't accomplish.

    I agree with Romano that it would be telling if I do say what is it really.

    Lets just wait and see what is really cooking. Would you not like surprises too, like everyone else? I will make sure it is worth the wait.

    Smile Old VWs in Afghanistan - 1966 Split Bus Resto (Kabul)

    http://www.combinations.fr/

    Check this link for a very interesting account of a Frenchman who bought and restored a special '66 11-window split bus in Kabul and drove it back to France.

    Apparently, there are a healthy number of unrestored old VWs languishing around urban areas in Afghanistan, including Beetles, Buses, Things and Type 3s. Afghanistan was a popular export destination for VWs back in the day, also loads of Western tourists used to come in their vans on the "hippie route" in the 60s and 70s. Real shame it's so damn tough to import them into PK...they are mostly being hacked up for scrap metal.

    Legend also has it that there's a split or early oval ragtop somewhere in Kabul, and...wait for it...an abandoned WW2 Schwimmenwagen and a Type 82 KdF Wagen lying rusting in somewhere in the mountains of northern Afghanistan...

    The above kind of headlights look great with American spec clear Hella lenses as one can use the small parking light bulb as a parking bulb or as an additional turn signal.

    @Arslan
    With effect from today; that would be me, who owns this very bug. And this very bug is up for a restoration soon. Coming over to Islamabad on March 06, 2011 to put a start to it. We can meet up and will see if its for the mutual good.
