    Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

    Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

    check this link for a very interesting account of a frenchman who bought and restored a special '66 11-window split bus in kabul and drove it back to france.

    Apparently, there are a healthy number of unrestored old vws languishing around urban areas in afghanistan, including beetles, buses, things and type 3s. Afghanistan was a popular export destination for vws back in the day, also loads of western tourists used to come in their vans on the "hippie route" in the 60s and 70s. Real shame it's so damn tough to import them into pk...they are mostly being hacked up for scrap metal.

    Legend also has it that there's a split or early oval ragtop somewhere in kabul, and...wait for it...an abandoned ww2 schwimmenwagen and a type 82 kdf wagen lying rusting in somewhere in the mountains of northern afghanistan...
    a real treat!!!

    @All

    Khalid {Veteran VW Electrician - Islamabad - 0333 517 7342} is moving from his current work location from G-8 to another (due to having been served with notice to vacate the shop).

    New work place isn't yet confirmed as putted by Khalid himself as I talked to him personally a few mins back.

    So anyone heading towards his shop, should refrain for a couple of days until he gets relocated/settled at a new work place.

    Great. Congratualtions. I love the car. its a beauty. Please keep it safe as we hardly get to put up cars like this these days and its really very difficult to achieve the results that this restoration of your car has achieved.

    I have followed the restoration process closely as it was being restored the same place and time as my 69 Beetle. It has come out very nicely except that as much as I know MJ he will soon be redoing the upholstery, roof lining etc.

    Am I right MJ?
    A car for the people, an affordable Volkswagen, would bring great joy to the masses and the problems of building such a car must be faced with courage.

    Now I would like to see it again . However I would say that the base work (denting etc. ) was done well. I didnt think that he would sell it when the denting n painting work was going on. But when he got the upholsetery done I knew he was up to something.

    Great to see the Club being put into effectiveness and formal arrangement.

    I am pretty hopeful that from now onwards the club would draw out some serious guidelines and framework to handle the issues faced by its members such as the one I faced in my "good faith online deal' of 1963 with @hassanazeem and which resulted in loss of material advance amount and/or would make it binding for the members to repay such advances that were made on the basis of pictures where the subject vehicle does not prove what it was presented in pictures.

    Please include this in your discussion on the day the meet is convened. Would appreciate if some guidelines/framework in this connection can be drawn.

    @Mjaffrani

    Is your green 1302 being done at Raheem's place? n Do you have four VWs at the moment.
    A car for the people, an affordable Volkswagen, would bring great joy to the masses and the problems of building such a car must be faced with courage.
